Sam Miller investigates how the ancient Greeks, the Romans, the Chinese, Arabs, Africans, Europeans and Americans came to imagine India. Spanning the centuries from Alexander the Great to Slumdog Millionaire, Miller’s account features, among others, Thomas the Apostle, the Chinese monk Xuanzang, Marco Polo, Babur, Clive of India, Allen Ginsberg, the Beatles and Steve Jobs-all of it interspersed with the story of his own 25-yearlong love affair with India. At once scholarly and thoughtprovoking, delightfully eccentric and laugh-out-loud funny, this book is destined to become a much-loved classic.

Perfect for fans of Rain Reign, this middle-grade novel The Brave is about a boy with an undiagnosed anxiety issue and his move to a reservation to live with his biological mother. Collin can't help himself—he has a mental health condition that finds him counting every letter spoken to him. It's a quirk that makes him a prime target for bullies, and frustrates the adults around him, including his father. When Collin asked to leave yet another school, his dad decides to send him to live in Minnesota with the mother he's never met. She is Ojibwe, and lives on a reservation. Collin arrives in Duluth with his loyal dog, Seven, and quickly finds his mom and his new home to be warm, welcoming, and accepting of his disability. Collin’s quirk is matched by that of his neighbor, Orenda, a girl who lives mostly in her treehouse and believes she is turning into a butterfly. With Orenda’s help, Collin works hard to learn the best ways to manage his anxiety disorder. His real test comes when he must step up for his new friend and trust his new family.

You Don T Know Me written by David Klass and has been published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-04-01 with Young Adult Fiction categories.

Moving, wholly involving, original, and emotionally true, You Don't Know Me is a multilayered young adult novel that presents a winning portrait of an understandably angst-ridden adolescent. John ("My father named me after a toilet!") wrestles with the certainty that no one really knows him -- not in his miserable home, and certainly not at school. It's true that no one can guess his hidden thoughts, which are hilarious, razor-sharp observations about lust, love, tubas, algebra, everything. And then there's his home: his father ran off years ago, so he's being raised by his mother, who works long hours, and by her boyfriend, whom John calls "the man who is not and never will be my father." This man is his enemy, an abusive disciplinarian who seems to want to kill John and, in a horrible final confrontation, nearly succeeds.

This is a book of historical fiction. The story is loosely based on the life of my great-great-grandmother. The story spans one hundred years of Irish history. Connie, the main character in the book, lived through every year of the twentieth century. Connie was born in Belfast, North Ireland, in the year of 1900 and passed in the year of 2000. Connie lived through both the First and the Second World Wars. Connie also lived through what became known as the troubles in North Ireland. Hence the title, Connies Wars. Connie was born into an extremely wealthy family. It would be fair to say that Connie lived a life of privilege, wanting for nothing throughout her early years. As a child, Connie was taught by both her mother and father that to live a life of such privilege carried a huge responsibility. A duty to look after those less fortunate than she was. Connie was taught that it was the duty of the wealthy to provide work and security for the working classes. This was a lesson that Connie learned well and put it into practices throughout her life. Although a Unionist and loyal to the British Crown all her life, Connie never ever harbored bigoted thoughts of any kind. When dealing with people no matter their creed, Connie always treated people as just that, people.

Generations have been and gone since Colonel Jeremy McCloud disappeared without trace on the first space mission launched by the United States of America in August 1945. Those involved in the launch are also gone—or have they? Present day, twenty-first century The first indication there might be contact with the 1945 space vessel The Javelin was unknowingly initiated by an archivist, Sophia Aburae, who heard a distinct signal originating somewhere in the archivist’s expansive workrooms in Washington, DC. On receiving notification of a mysterious signal, US military specialists became involved in detecting its whereabouts and extricating the relay assembly. Unknown operatives were assigned the task of seeking out and destroying those involved in the delicate and secretive operation. Unknown alien visitors—eight identically dressed beings—were assigned the task of stopping any interference by the United States Military’s specialist operation forces. A stranger, Mr. Krawn, apparently of human origin, addressed the United Nations Security Council with a request to allow asylum and safe haven for the inhabitants of an unknown planet, Ichtholia, situated in the Maritimus Galaxy, ten light-years from Earth. A number of alien space vessels from Ichtholia descended onto the plains of the Great Western Desert in Western Australia. Primitive tribesmen of the Pintupi Nation observed the arrival of the strangers, reporting their discovery to a remote police station at Kiwirrkurra. A desert patrol was sent to the location and—along with numerous tribesmen—observed the behavior of the alien visitors to prevent any aggressive actions toward Earth beings. Corruption existed across many nations. Collaboration with the aliens by traitorous Xranons exacerbated the need for friendly alien forces to curb any attempts to overthrow the governments of all nations and control Earth—the blue planet!
