Here is Shropshire at its glorious best: - Ironbridge under a dusting of snow - Wild ponies on the Long Mynd - Bridgnorth's high rock in autumn colours - The beech walk on The Wrekin - The ancient holly grove on The Stiperstones - Christmas carols in the square at Much Wenlock Moving from spring to winter, covering every corner of Shropshire, from tiny hamlets to our proud towns and monuments, this collection is a breath-taking tribute to this diverse, unspoilt and often overlooked part of England. The photographers have captured the unusual shots which offer a new slant on our familiar and much-loved sights.

Father and son professional photographers John and Mike Hayward have worked together to share their enthusiasm for the county they live in and love. Their joy in the Shropshire landscapes, towns and villages shines through on every page. The dedication needed to catch that shot of hot air balloons hovering over Old Oswestry hill fort in early morning, or sunset at Pole Bank pond, the highest point on the Long Mynd, cannot be over-estimated. And the pleasure they take in capturing the people of this county - from the Severn Valley Railway steam enthusiasts at Highley, to cricketers at the idyllic village ground at Burwarton, to the priest blessing his congregation in the dodgem cars at Ludlow's May Fair - is clear from every shot. Fans of the Haywards' first book A Year in Shropshire will find over 160 new images of the county here, each one reminding them why Shropshire is one of England's most glorious counties.

A Shropshire Lad written by Alfred Edward Housman and has been published by Branden Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with Poetry categories.

A Shropshire Lad (1896) is a cycle of sixty-three poems by the English poet Alfred Edward Housman. A Shropshire Lad was first published in 1896 at Housman's own expense after several publishers had turned it down, much to the surprise of his colleagues and students. At first the book sold slowly, but during the Second Boer War, Housman's nostalgic depiction of rural life and young men's early deaths struck a chord with English readers and the book became a bestseller. Later, World War I further increased its popularity. Alfred Edward Housman (26 March 1859 - 30 April 1936), usually known as A. E. Housman, was an English classical scholar and poet, best known for his cycle of poems A Shropshire Lad. Lyrical and almost epigrammatic in form, the poems were mostly written before 1900. Their wistful evocation of doomed youth in the English countryside, in spare language and distinctive imagery, appealed strongly to late Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian taste, and to many early twentieth century English composers (beginning with Arthur Somervell) both before and after the First World War. Through its song-setting the poetry became closely associated with that era, and with Shropshire itself. Housman was counted one of the foremost classicists of his age, and has been ranked as one of the greatest scholars of all time. He established his reputation publishing as a private scholar and, on the strength and quality of his work, was appointed Professor of Latin at UCL and later, at Cambridge. His editions of Juvenal, Manilius and Lucan are still considered authoritative.

A History Of Shropshire written by Barrie Trinder and has been published by Phillimore this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Shropshire (England) categories.

Shropshire is England's largest inland county, extending from the fringes of the Black Country and the Potteries to the high sheep pastures of Clun Forest and the craggy heights of the Stiperstones.Dr Trinder's very readable narrative encompasses Shropshire's entire story, from prehistory to the 1990s. In Roman times, the citizens of Wroxeter enjoyed life in their elegant city beside the Severn, while later centuries of fighting along the Welsh border left a legacy of castles and fortifications, among them Offa's Dyke, one of the supreme achievements of the Dark Ages. Most of Shropshire's towns were deliberately planted in the early Middle Ages, among them Ludlow, one of the most beautiful towns in Europe. The development of the Shropshire iron industry, symbolised by the Iron Bridge, ushered in a period of industrialisation which has re-shaped the whole Western world. From 1788 to 1834 Thomas Telford was county surveyor, adding roads, canals and bridges of unfailing elegance to the landscape. During the two World Wars the county housed many military bases, while the most dramatic event of the post-war years has been the transformation of a legacy of industrial dereliction into the new town of Telford. This book is based on more than thirty years of Dr Trinder's original research and close first-hand acquaintance with the Shropshire landscape. He provides a fascinating framework for further research, a thought-provoking chronicle for Salopians wishing to know more about their history and an informative introduction to Shropshire for its many visitors.
