When Fiat entered rallying in 1970, its ultimate aim was to become World Rally Champion and the 131 Abarth of 1976-1980 provided the machinery to make that possible. It started winning World rallies within months of being launched, and in 1977, 1978 and 1980 the 'works' team also won the World Championship for Makes, and set every standard by which Rally Giants were to be judged. Was there ever any doubt that successors like the Lancia Rally 037 and the Delta Integrale would eventually come from the same stable?

Available again after a long absence! Always big on character and charm, Fiat’s little cars played an important international roll in providing affordable and practical private transport for millions who had previously thought their dream impossible. With particular emphasis on the now classic 600 and Nuova 500 cars, this book tells the full story of these ‘baby’ Fiats. Built, and exported to, many countries outside of the marque’s native Italy, over 6.5 million Topolinos, 600s and Nuova 500s were sold, and an amazing number survive to this today. Also covered are the wonderful models built on these cars’ tiny chassis by Italy’s leading coachbuilders, and the motorsport success achieved by the Abarth versions of the little cars that everybody loves.

Carlo Abarth's factory remembered by more than 50 ex-employees: mechanics, engineers, drivers, managers, secretaries ... Everybody with their amazing witnesses ... -- Some names are famous - Renzo Avidano, Stefano Iacoponi, Antonio Tomaini, Mario Poltronieri, Arturo Merzario ... - but many others who are unknown to the public also worked at Abarth when the "Scorpione" was simply great. -- Carlo Abarth is one of the most important man in the history of international motor industries. A name became a brand, a symbol, a myth. -- Behind this name there is a man with great ability, real skill for business and technical knowledge. Behind this brand there are unique cars. -- In addition to these features, we must remember many women and men who worked in this factory with passion. People with many stories to tell, all connected to the history of the Scorpione's factory. -- We have looked for many of them. We have wanted to interview them, in order to give them name, face and voice. -- And mostly we want to find a "new" Abarth - the "first" Abarth lived with its founder Carlo Abarth, 1949 to 1971 - thanks to their witnesses and experiences.

Powered by Porsche – the Alternative Race Cars is a thorough and fascinating account of the racing cars that were powered by Porsche engines, but where the chassis and development of the car was carried out by others. The Porsche company in Zuffenhausen, Germany, can probably be said to be the most successful marque ever for victories in the motor racing scene. Likewise many firsts in innovation have come with the name Porsche attached. Many major racing car producers such as Elva, Lotus, Lola, or March, as well as many smaller independents, at some time featured a Porsche engine in their chassis. Demand for the services and supply of cars, chassis, and parts from Porsche, often outstripped their ability to deliver during the late ’70s to early ’80s. With many new projects in the rapidly expanding Porsche organisation, race car projects had to be prioritised. This would lead to the creation of the replicas, as opposed to the factory-built works race cars, and even Porsche was building ‘replica’ 935s to supply to clients, continuing into the 962 era. In turn, a whole new, highly specialised, high quality industry grew up to meet the demand for Porsche-powered racers. In this fascinating book we meet the racing cars, the teams and the people who turned to Porsche to utilise the power from, perhaps, the greatest of all engine makers. This is thought to be first book on the subject, covering the entire history of Porsche engines, detailed engine specifications, non-Porsche chassis, and race details, as well as team histories with anecdotes from drivers. It is illustrated with many previously unpublished photos, and provides fascinating reading for all racing fans, as well as Porsche enthusiasts.

Ghia written by Luciano Greggio and has been published by Masterpieces of Style this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-18 with Business & Economics categories.

An invaluable book that sheds light on a relatively unknown but lengthy chapter in the history of design, This is the story of Ghia of Turin, a company active from the 1920s. The firm was responsible for some of the most important models in automotive history, frequently distinguished by daring and trend-setting styling. Tracing the history of Ghia brings to light models of particularly evocative appeal, such as the Fiat 508 Sport Spider (1934), various Alfa Romeo 6C 2500s and the 1900 SS Abarth (1954), not to mention a number of unusual Ferraris from the same decade. A decade that was of fundamental importance to Ghia that, one after the other, produced a series of opulent cars inspired by the styling canons in vogue in the United States in that period, but also styling exercises such as the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (1955). The Sixties were no less prolific, with further "classics" such as the Fiat 2300 S (1960), the De Tomaso Mangusta and Pantera (1966 and 1970) and the immortal Ghibli from 1966. As was the case for other Italian coachbuilders, there followed a period of crisis that saw the Ghia marque change hands on a number of occasions before being acquired by Ford.
