The middle class provides British society with its stability and strength. According to Deane's contentious thesis, our middle class has abstained from its responsibility to uphold societal values, and the enormously damaging collapse of our society's norms and standards is largely a result of that abdication. The institutions of political and social governance provide a husk of functionality and mask these problems for those that do not wish to see, or do not care. To restore Britain to something resembling a substantively functioning country, the middle classes must reinstate themselves as arbiters of morality, be unafraid to judge their fellow men, and follow through with the condemnation that necessarily follows when individuals sin against common values.

This book explores the authors' legal thinking on artificial intelligence (AI), a topic of burgeoning interest in the technology sector and among the general public. As part of the Human Intelligence book series, it primarily addresses the legislative and philosophical challenges posed by AI technology. A key philosophical concern discussed is the implications of AI surpassing human intelligence in certain domains, particularly the definition of rights and responsibilities for robots. Without clear resolutions to these issues, the deployment of AI technology may face significant hurdles. The book covers various aspects, including the legal recognition of robots as rights-holders, strategies for implementing these rights, assigning responsibilities to robots, intellectual property rights for robotic inventions, personality rights for companion robots, and an evaluation of the pros and cons of a binary legal system.

If you could converse with a wise spirit entity and ask any question you wished, what would you ask? Bending Reality: The Book traces a path that explores methods for dealing with life's everyday stresses and challenges and ways for expanding perception. By conversing with Sir Garrod, a spirit entity channeled through author Bernice Kelman, we can discover that we are much more than we thought we were and that reality is far greater than we have ever imagined. Everything that can be learned from him can be applied in very practical ways by learning how to find and use the energy of unconditional love to lead a more meaningful life. The spirit entity can provide guidance on a wide variety of questions, ranging from "How can I deal with my spouse, my boss, my mother-in-law?" to "Who was I in another life?" or "What happens when we die?" Sir Garrod explores the responses to these and other questions. He cautions, "Believe nothing, including what I tell you." Bending Reality: The Book provides the opportunity to test the spirit entity's ideas and suggestions and to see how they work for you.

The Luck Of The Draw written by Peter Stone and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-15 with Political Science categories.

From the earliest times, people have used lotteries to make decisions--by drawing straws, tossing coins, picking names out of hats, and so on. We use lotteries to place citizens on juries, draft men into armies, assign students to schools, and even on very rare occasions, select lifeboat survivors to be eaten. Lotteries make a great deal of sense in all of these cases, and yet there is something absurd about them. Largely, this is because lottery-based decisions are not based upon reasons. In fact, lotteries actively prevent reason from playing a role in decision making at all. Over the years, people have devoted considerable effort to solving this paradox and thinking about the legitimacy of lotteries as a whole. However, these scholars have mainly focused on lotteries on a case-by-case basis, not as a part of a comprehensive political theory of lotteries. In The Luck of the Draw, Peter Stone surveys the variety of arguments proffered for and against lotteries and argues that they only have one true effect relevant to decision making: the "sanitizing effect" of preventing decisions from being made on the basis of reasons. While this rationale might sound strange to us, Stone contends that in many instances, it is vital that decisions be made without the use of reasons. By developing innovative principles for the use of lottery-based decision making, Stone lays a foundation for understanding when it is--and when it is not--appropriate to draw lots when making political decisions both large and small.
