Abraham spielt eine wichtige Rolle im jüdisch-christlich-muslimischen Dialog. Als "gemeinsamer Vater" von drei Religionen soll er die Gegensätze überbrücken und für das Verbindende stehen. Doch kann "Abraham" wirklich die Basis für ein friedliches Miteinander bieten? Ein Blick in die jeweiligen Offenbarungstexte fällt eher ernüchternd aus, denn mit der Chiffre "Abraham" betonen sie keineswegs nur Gemeinsamkeit, sondern definieren auch die eigene Identität durch Abgrenzung von Anderen. Dies zeigen exemplarisch Texte aus der Hebräischen Bibel, dem frühjüdischen Jubiläenbuch, dem Neuen Testament und dem Koran. Auch heilige Orte verbinden und trennen: Mekka und Hebron als Verehrungsorte von Abraham, Sara und Hagar sind zugleich gemeinsames Erbe und Brennpunkte des Konflikts. Gerade in schwierigen Zeiten, wenn überall Gegensätze verschärft werden, ist ein gelingender interreligiöser Dialog lebensnotwendig. Er braucht aber eine tragfähigere Basis als die schillernde Abrahams-Figur der verschiedenen Traditionen. Einstweilen kann "Abraham" allenfalls ein Codewort sein für den Wunsch nach Geschwisterlichkeit und für die Absicht, Gemeinsamkeit zu entwickeln.

Patristic and rabbinic biblical interpretations are significant contributions to the identity construction of late antique Christian and Jewish groups. The contributions in this conference volume illuminate the reception of biblical texts, themes and figures in patristic and rabbinic writings from the 2nd to the 8th century. They reveal processes of mutual demarcation, which are sometimes extremely polemical, sometimes only implicit and indirectly accessible. The correct interpretation of Scripture is claimed for one's own "we", while at the same time distinguishing it from the "others". Nevertheless, similarities and mutual positive references are clearly recognizable. Especially the often so polemical Christian interpretation is from the beginning rooted in the Jewish tradition and based on it. But also the rabbinic interpretation shows traces of the controversy with Christianity.

In this work, the author investigates Gal 1:13-14, Gal 3:6-14, 1 Thess 4:13-17, 2 Cor 12:1-10 and Rom 10:4 and then expounds how Paul, although originating from Judaism and having been educated in Jewish Biblical interpretation, reaches a new hermeneutic only after his experience of Christ. The apostle proves to be dependent neither on apocalyptic views nor on the methods of Greek Rhetoric nor on Rabbinic Midrash, although he is well versed in them. Instead, he develops a Christological interpretation of the Torah, and this interpretation becomes the centre of his mission to the non-Jews. The Torah finds its eschatological fulfillment in Christ and receives its ethical validity for the nations in the form of the love command.

Die in der Arbeit vorgenomme Auslegung der Schriften De Josepho und De Somniis II von Philo von Alexandria liest die beiden gegensätzlichen Darstellungen der Josephfigur als Beitrag zum Herrschaftsdiskurs. Die ambivalenten Tendenzen der biblischen Josephfigur bilden für ihn den Ausgangspunkt am Beispiel Josephs, Strukturen sowohl tyrannischer als auch idealer Herrschaft zu untersuchen. Philos Kenntnis griechisch-hellenistischer Philosophie sowie sein Verständnis der Tora als göttlich inspiriertem Text ermöglicht ihm, den politischen Charakter auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen zu reflektieren. Die Spannung zwischen beiden Traktaten bleibt dabei bestehen und kann als bewusste Darstellung gelungener und tyrannischer Herrschaft gedeutet werden. Zugleich entwickelt Philo aus den Ambivalenzen der Josephfigur heraus ein Herrschaftskonzept, welches aufgrund des Toraverständnisses politisches Handeln aus Abhängigkeiten befreit und universale Handlungsvorgaben und Kontrollinstanzen aufzeigt. -------- The exegesis of De Josepho and De Somniis II intended in this work read the two portrayals of Joseph as Philo’s contribution to the discourse on government. The ambivalent tendencies in the Joseph figure form the point of departure for Philo in using it for examining structures of tyrannical and ideal rule. Philo’s knowledge of Greek-Hellenistic philosophy and his understanding of the Torah enables him to reflect upon the political character on different levels. Thus the tension between both treatises can be interpreted as a conscious portrayal of effective and of tyrannical rule. At the same time Philo develops a concept of government out of the ambivalences of the Joseph figure, which, on the basis of the understanding of the Torah, liberates political action from dependencies and points out universal guidelines for action and the authorities responsible for control of them.
