Este libro cuyo título ya lo dice todo Cuéntame un cuento, abuelo, aunque pequeño en su tamaño, es grande en su contenido sentimental y literario. Su autor, Julio Calvet Botella, ha querido ofrecer a sus familiares y amigos, pero muy especialmente a su nietecita Pilar, y por ende, a las más pequeñas Inés y Begoña, un ramillete de flores, flores rojas como los geranios que ilustran la portada, simbolizando el color del corazón de donde han salido en forma de cuentos o relatos sus gratas vivencias de niñez y juventud. Esta obra de Julio Calvet que hoy tenemos en nuestras manos, como todo lo bueno es breve, se puede leer fácilmente en un espacio corto de tiempo, pero yo me permito recomendar que se haga sin prisas, saboreando cada una de sus frases, como se hace ante una buena comida o un buen vino. Algún día, el paso inexorable del tiempo hará que las nietecitas de Julio Calvet se conviertan en mujeres adultas y, tanto él como todos los que hoy peinamos canas nos encontremos pululando por las alturas siderales, y ellas lean y relean estos cuentos y, a través de ellos, se haga realidad aquella frase de Alex Haley: Nadie puede hacer por los niños lo que hacen los abuelos: salpican una especie de polvo de estrellas sobre sus vidas.
