A personal odyssey through the world of Christian higher education, narrated by a professional who has worked on both sides of the faculty-administrative divide. What is the world of Christian higher education really like? Rick Ostrander’s thirty-year career in Christian academia equips him to provide an insider’s perspective on the field and its future. Ostrander cut his teeth as an undergraduate at Moody Bible Institute and the University of Michigan before completing his PhD with George Marsden at Notre Dame. From there he worked as a professor and administrator at various Christian colleges, a vice president at the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, and an independent academic consultant. Throughout, he witnessed the many dramatic transformations of Christian higher education. Ostrander traces an attempt to cultivate evangelical intellectualism in the ’90s to the political and economic forces that shake Christian colleges today. Through lively storytelling, Ostrander highlights the qualities and quirks of Christian higher education. His experiences offer readers insight into how Christian colleges can flourish in an age of uncertainty.

An action research study was conducted to gauge the researcher's effectiveness in teaching academic group talk skills. The researcher also measured whether or not students perceived academic group talk skills to be an asset to their education, and if their attitudes were impacted by being taught the skills. Academic group talk skills are defined as a learned behavior of on-task, productive conversation between two or more students and/or the teacher that supports learning and higher level thinking, a form of cooperative learning. Three weeks of intervention were implemented in which the researcher explicitly taught students how to have an academic conversation through modeling, class discussion, and practice. Qualitative and quantitative class discussion tools were used including a researcher journal, a pre- and post- Likert-like questionnaire, and three charts and checklists tracking relevant behaviors. The data suggests an increase in student academic talk skills, perceived student appreciation of the skills, and an increase in student appreciation after being taught the skills.

Drawing on ethnographic inquiry and the anthropological literature on doubt and atheism, this volume explores people's reluctance to pursue religion. The contributors capture the experiences of godless people and examine their perspectives on the role of religion in their personal and public lives. In doing so, the volume contributes to a critical understanding of the processes of disengagement from religion and reveals the challenges and paradoxes that godless people face.

Indian Migrants In Tokyo written by Megha Wadhwa and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-29 with Social Science categories.

How does an extended stay in Japan influence Indian migrants’ sense of their identity as they adapt to a country very different from their own? The number of Indians in Japan is increasing. The links between Japan and India go back a long way in history, and the intricacy of their cultures is one of the many factors they have in common. Japanese culture and customs are among the most distinctive and complex in the world, and it is often difficult for foreigners to get used to them. Wadhwa focuses on the Indian Diaspora in Tokyo, analysing their lives there by drawing on a wealth of interviews and extensive participant observation. She examines their lifestyles, fears, problems, relations and expectations as foreigners in Tokyo and their efforts to create a 'home away from home' in Japan. This book will be of great interest to anthropologists and sociologists concerned with the impact of migration on diaspora communities, especially those focused on Japan, India or both.

Stewart Sinclair Private Eye written by Elizabeth Greenwood and has been published by Author House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08-23 with Fiction categories.

Elizabeth Greenwood studied sculpture at St. Martins School of Art, and in Florence and Rome. She had a classical education, preferring Greek to Latin for the richness of its vocabulary and her sculpture with its reference to Greek mythology reflects this predilection; she is also a dedicated writer. Apart from poetry, she enjoys producing emblematic fiction based on Mary Poppins philosophical song a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down, thus fulfilling the writers task as entertainer cum moralist, Both creative activities date from early childhood. Although they were largely ignored, she was fortunate in having been born into a family where close relatives had universal minds, uniting a passion for Literature with a keen interest in Politics, the Cinema and Science, especially Space Science. Officially, she began her writing career by producing educational scripts for the BBC World Wide Services which taught her the invaluable benefit of dedicated researching. In later years, to counteract a tendency to create works of the imagination, she has applied herself to the discipline of academic work in the field of biblical studies with particular regard to the Dead Sea discoveries, now well-documented, which give insights into the rise of Christianity. Her particular interest in Sherlock Holmes as an innovative detective relates to his having been born in America in a play on Broadway where it was an immediate success, with a famous actor in the lead while Conan Doyle, the British creator of Sherlock Holmes, was serving with the Friends Ambulance Service as a volunteer front-line surgeon during the Boer war in South Africa.
