Higher education systems have changed all over the world, but not all have changed in the same ways. Although system growth and so-called massification have been worldwide themes, there have been system-specific changes as well. It is these changes that have an important impact on academic work and on the opinions of the staff that work in higher education. The academic profession has a key role to play in producing the next generations of knowledge workers, and this task will be more readily achieved by a contented academic workforce working within well-resourced teaching and research institutions. This volume tells the story of academics’ opinions about the changes in their own countries. The Changing Academic Profession (CAP) survey has provided researchers and policy makers with the capacity to compare the academic profession around the world. Built around national analyses of the survey this book examines academics’ opinions on a range of issues to do with their job satisfaction. Following an introduction that considers the job satisfaction literature as it relates to higher education, country-based chapters examine aspects of job satisfaction within each country.

It is essential to know how teacher's satisfaction affects the performance of students. Using the data of the 2016 Annual Monitoring of the Academic Quality of Students in Basic Education in Jiangsu of China, this study applied a hierarchical linear model to analyze the impact of teacher's satisfaction on the academic performance of elementary students. Results showed that both the self-realized satisfaction with the education work and the relationship between colleagues and students displayed a significant effect on students' performance, whereas the satisfaction with the supervisors and administrative, the rationality of the payment, and the environment for further development did not show a significant impact on students' performance. So based on these data, we suggest that it is critical to create a better self-realized condition for teachers to realize a good relationship with colleagues, and build up an incentive system for them to better stimulate their teaching enthusiasm.

Data collected included student achievement data, student attendance data, teacher survey results, and focus group interview data. The results of this quasi-experimental cohort design study indicated a marginally significant relationship between departmentalization and academic achievement. Student involvement in extracurricular activities (ECA) has been studied in the field of educational research in regard to its impact on academic achievement. This research reviewed the extant research regarding student achievement. In addition, it expands upon the limited research on the relationship these activities may have in regard to the teachers and staff who oversee them, and how this supervision and involvement of ECA impacted those teachers' job satisfaction. The findings of the current investigation indicate that supervision of ECA can have a positive impact on educational professionals. Additionally, the research has shown to substantiate positive impacts on teacher longevity, organizational commitment, job performance, and job satisfaction for those individuals who coach and/or advise these activities. Coupled with the research indicating a positive impact on academic achievement from participation in ECA for students, these findings support the prioritization of ECA by school districts and states, so that creative fiscal ways can be found to sustain such programs that have, in recent times, been eliminated due to budget cuts.
