This book provides a comprehensive coverage of the state of the art in precision medicine in stroke. It starts by explaining and giving general information about precision medicine. Current applications in different strokes types (ischemic, haemorrhagic) are presented from diagnosis to treatment. In addition, ongoing research in the field (early stroke diagnosis and estimation of prognosis) is extensively discussed. The final part provides an in-depth discussion of how different interdisciplinary areas like artificial intelligence, molecular biology and genetics are contributing to this area. Precision Medicine in Stroke provides a practical approach to each chapter, reinforcing clinical applications and presenting clinical cases. This book is intended for all clinicians that interact with stroke patients (neurologists, internal medicine doctors, general practitioners, neurosurgeons), students and basic researchers.

This updated second edition of Acute Ischemic Stroke: Imaging and Intervention provides a comprehensive account of the state of the art in the diagnosis and treatment of acute ischemic stroke. The basic format of the first edition has been retained, with sections on fundamentals such as pathophysiology and causes, imaging techniques and interventions. However, each chapter has been revised to reflect the important recent progress in advanced neuroimaging and the use of interventional tools. In addition, a new chapter is included on the classification instruments for ischemic stroke and their use in predicting outcomes and therapeutic triage. All of the authors are internationally recognized experts and members of the interdisciplinary stroke team at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The text is supported by numerous informative illustrations, and ease of reference is ensured through the inclusion of suitable tables. This book will serve as a unique source of up-to-date information for neurologists, emergency physicians, radiologists and other health care providers who care for the patient with acute ischemic stroke.

Active military personnel and Veterans of the military face unique neurologic and neuropsychiatric challenges unique to this population compared to the public. The military and Veteran population have faced traumatic experiences that lead to both physical and mental consequences. Amongst the important challenges unique to this population include traumatic brain injury, increased risk of neurological disorders such as dementia and stroke, and comorbid neuropsychiatric conditions. Unfortunately, many of these challenges also have a negative feedback loop such as brain injuries leading to post-traumatic stress order, which can increase risk of Alzheimer’s Dementia. Unfortunately, there are many gaps in knowledge to understand the unique challenges this population faces. There are many opportunities to improve our understanding of these challenges that military personnel and Veterans face. The goal of this Research Topic is to shine a light and improve understanding of these challenges. We aim to collect knowledge from the global network of researchers working on topics related to “Neurological and Neuropsychiatric disorders affecting military personnel and Veterans.” There are currently many gaps in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of conditions that affect this population disproportionately. This collection of work in the Frontiers in Neurology will give authors the opportunity to share with the global scientific community important research findings that address these gaps. For this collection, we are looking for submissions with topics that specifically address the unique challenges affecting military personnel and Veterans with Neurologic and Neuropsychiatric disorders.

Moyamoya Disease 2nd Edition written by Yuxiang Gu and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-24 with Medical categories.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a chronic cerebrovascular disease characterized by progressive stenosis of the arteries of the circle of Willis, and formation of a collateral vascular network at the base of the brain. Moyamoya syndrome is caused by numerous conditions, which lead to arterial occlusion of the circle of Willis and resultant collaterals reminiscent of moyamoya disease. Due to the diverse angioarchitecture and unknown influence factors, the hemodynamic disturbances of MMD/Moyamoya syndrome are complicated, and result in multimodal clinical manifestations including headache, cognitive impairment, seizures, TIA, infarction, and hemorrhage. Surgical revascularization has been proven as effective in decreasing incidence of long-term risk of stroke. However, occurrence of perioperative stroke and complications such as seizures and cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome are still unpredictable. In addition, many patients with cognitive impairment cannot benefit from surgical revascularization and the mechanism remains unclear. Thus, a series of studies focusing on the objective evaluation of MMD/Moyamoya syndrome are needed to help understand this complicated cerebrovascular disease and improve our treatment strategy. The goal of this Research Topic is to better understand the pathophysiological nature of MMD/Moyamoya syndrome through objective neuroimaging. We also aim to generate a reasonable and objective evaluation system for MMD/ Moyamoya syndrome and would like to understand the link between cognitive impairment and brain damage of MMD/Moyamoya syndrome though neuroimaging. Through these findings we also aim to improve the treatment strategy by understanding the pathophysiological link with relevant complications. Finally, we also aim to improve our understanding of the significance of perioperative management for patients with severe complications from the perspective of objective evaluation.
