Most Americans are aware that the Wright brothers had been the first to fly a powered Flying Machine in 1903. But John J. Montgomery was the first to fly a glider of his own design in 1883, a full twenty years before the Wright brothers. Achieving Flight, by John G. Burdick and Bernard J. Burdick, provides an historic and scientific assessment of the role of John J. Montgomery (1858-1911), one of Californias own, in the early years of flight in America. It tells the story of Montgomery, an eminent scientist whose achievements in aeronautics and electricity have largely been forgotten. This biography narrates how, during his days as a student at St. Ignatius College, he was fortunate to be instructed by some of the most renowned Jesuit scientists ousted from Europe, earning a masters of science degree in 1880. The Burdicks also provide a critical analysis of Montgomerys prescient understanding of aeronautics relative to other practitioners and researchers prior to, during, and after his time. Noting Montgomerys importance in aeronautical history, Achieving Flight reviews his significant accomplishments in having his pilots fly successfully in high air (up to 4,000 feet, being lofted there by a hot-air balloon), but also evaluates the scientific correctness of his ideas, which were decades ahead of the times.

Flight Plan written by Brian Tracy and has been published by Woodslane Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Business categories.

In Flight Plan Brian Tracy reveals the real key ingredients that go into accomplishing any long-term, meaningful success. He shares universal principles and timeless truths that have been discovered and rediscovered through the ages and that all successful people learn and practice. Using the metaphor of an airplane trip from coast to coast, Flight Plan shows that the real secret to success is to first figure out your destination - where you want to go - and lock in on it. Second, you must take off-identify precisely what you must do to achieve the goals you have set for yourself and take action. And third, you must persist through the inevitable challenges and setbacks-by making continual course corrections-until you reach your destination. Tracy observes that any airplane, headed for any destination, will be off course 99 percent of the time because of air turbulence. But, by locking in on its destination, taking off, and making continual course corrections, the plane will arrive as scheduled. The same is true of people's journey through life.

Reach For The Skies written by Richard Branson and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-28 with Transportation categories.

One of the world's most famous business leaders (and a well-known avian fanatic) explores the pioneers of flight. Bestselling author and billionaire entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson has always been obsessed with the skies. To promote a new Virgin Airlines route, he became the first man to water ski behind a blimp. His Virgin Galactic venture will soon offer ordinary people the opportunity to experience spaceflight aboard the first commercial spaceliner, SpaceShipTwo. In Reach for the Skies, Branson examines the history of aviation over the last two hundred years, putting the spotlight on trailblazers such as: *Tony Jannus, who made the first ever commercial flight over Tampa Bay, Florida, in 1914. *Leo Valentin, the "bird man" who jumped from 9,000 feet wearing a pair of wooden wings in the 1950s. *Steve Fossett, who broke 130 world records in planes, balloons, and airships. The pioneers of flight-not just the world-famous Wright Brothers, but also lesser known visionaries and dreamers-made it possible for any of us with the desire and the commitment to reach for the skies ourselves.
