La Escuela Politécnica Superior de Orihuela (EPSO) de la Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, en su afán de promover el intercambio de conocimiento entre los estudiantes y jóvenes investigadores, ha organizado el II Congreso Universitario en Innovación y Sostenibilidad Agroalimentaria (CUISA), celebrado los días 16 y 17 de septiembre de 2021 en modalidad on-line. En este congreso se inscribieron 110 participantes y se presentaron 77 comunicaciones, 63 de ellas de forma oral y 14 como póster, por jóvenes investigadores, pertenecientes a estudios de Máster y de Doctorado, o recientemente doctorados. La mayoría de los participantes en este congreso han sido españoles, aunque también cabe destacar participantes de otros países como México, Ecuador, Colombia o Mozambique. Las comunicaciones se presentaron en 12 sesiones temáticas que abarcaron diferentes aspectos de la producción agrícola y ganadera, desde los recursos genéticos, las técnicas de producción más novedosas, hasta el aprovechamiento de sub-productos y la economía de las empresas agroalimentarias, siempre desde un punto de vista medioambiental y sostenible y con especial énfasis en la producción de productos de excelente calidad y con beneficios para la salud de los consumidores. Finalmente, queremos destacar la elevada calidad científica de las comunicaciones presentadas en el congreso y que se recogen en la presente publicación, que según se desprende de su el título, es la segunda de una larga serie de futuros congresos. La Escuela Politécnica Superior de Orihuela (EPSO) y el Centro en Investigación Agroalimentaria y Agroambiental (CIAGRO) de la Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, en su afán de promover el intercambio de conocimiento entre los estudiantes y jóvenes investigadores ha organizado el III Congreso Universitario en Innovación y Sostenibilidad Agroalimentaria (CUISA), celebrado los días 15 y 16 de septiembre de 2022, en modalidad dual (presencial y online). En este congreso se inscribieron 100 participantes y se presentaron 65 comunicaciones, 54 de forma oral y 11 como póster, por jóvenes investigadores, pertenecientes a estudios de Grado, Máster y Doctorado, o recientemente doctorados. La mayoría de los participantes en este congreso han sido españoles, aunque también había participantes de Ecuador, México, Argentina, Perú y Polonia. Las comunicaciones se presentaron en 9 sesiones temáticas que abarcaron diferentes aspectos de la producción agrícola y ganadera, los recursos genéticos, las técnicas de producción más novedosas, hasta el aprovechamiento de subproductos y la economía de las empresas agroalimentarias, siempre desde un punto de vista medioambiental y sostenible y con especial énfasis en la producción de productos de excelente calidad y con beneficios para la salud de los consumidores. Una vez más, queremos destacar la elevada calidad científica de las comunicaciones presentadas en el congreso y que se recogen en la presente publicación, que según se desprende de su título, es la tercera de una larga serie de futuros congresos. This collection explores the discursive strategies and linguistic resources underpinning conflict and polarization, taking a multidisciplinary approach to examine the ways in which conflict is constructed across a diverse range of contexts. The volume is divided into two sections as a means of identifying two different dimensions to conflict construction and bridging the gap between different perspectives through a constructivist framework. The first part comprises chapters looking at sociopolitical conflicts across specific geographic contexts across the US, Europe and Latin America. The second half of the book unpacks sociocultural conflicts, those not defined by physical borders but shaped by ideological differences on core values, such as on religion, gender and the environment. Drawing on frameworks across such fields as linguistics, critical discourse analysis, rhetoric studies and cognitive studies, the book offers new insights into the discursive polarization that permeates contemporary communicative interactions and the ways in which a better understanding of conflict and its origins might serve as a mechanism for providing new ways forward. Poverty is a severe problem in Africa, Asia, South America and even in pockets of the developed world. Addressing poverty alleviation via the expanded use of biological nitrogen fixation in agriculture was the theme of the 15th International Congress on Nitrogen Fixation. Because nitrogen-fixation research is multidisciplinary, exploiting its benefits for agriculture and environmental protection has continued to attract research by diverse groups of scientists, including chemists, biochemists, plant physiologists, evolutionary biologists, ecologists, agricultural scientists, extension agents, and inoculant producers. The 15th International Congress on Nitrogen Fixation was held jointly with the 12th International Conference of the African Association for Biological Nitrogen Fixation. This joint Congress was hosted in South Africa at the Cape Town International Conv- tion Centre, 21–26 January 2007, and was attended by about 200 registered participants from 41 countries world-wide. During the Congress, some 100 oral and approximately 80 poster papers were presented. The wide range of topics covered and the theme of the Congress justifies this book’s title, Nitrogen Fixation: Applications to Poverty Alleviation.

Legumes are very important plants playing a central role in biological research. They are a key component of sustainable agricultural systems because of symbiotic nitrogen fixation and other beneficial symbiosis with mycorrhizal fungi. Studies on most of the major leguminous crops are hampered by large genome sizes and other disadvantages which have hindered the isolation and characterisation of genes with important roles in legume biology and agriculture. For this reason Lotus japonicus was chosen as a model species for legume research some ten years ago. Since then, many groups around the world have adopted Lotus as a model and have developed numerous resources and protocols to facilitate basic and applied research on this species. This handbook represents the first effort to compile basic descriptions and methods for research in Lotus, including symbiotic processes, cell and molecular biology protocols, functional genomics, mutants, gene tagging and genetic analysis, transformation and reverse genetic analysis, primary and secondary metabolism, and an exhaustive update of the scientific literature available on this plant.

The difficulties facing practitioners vary between country and context but some challenges are universal: A lack of clarity in communicating what is meant by sustainable development; An ambition to educate everyone to bring about a global citizenship; Social, organisational or institutional factors constrain change to sustainable development, yet there is an emphasis on formal education, and community educators do not receive the same support; A lack of balance in addressing the integration of environmental, social and economic dimensions leading to an interpretation that ESD is mainly about environment and conservation issues; New learning (rather than teaching) approaches are called for to promote more debate in society.
