Sous l'Ancien Régime, l'administration coloniale, l'Eglise et le commerce ont produit une masse considérable de documents de toutes sortes : la Nouvelle-France n'y a pas fait exception. Puisque la colonie n'avait aucun moulin producteur de papier, il a bien fallu importer ce support nécessaire aux écritures. Trois questions découlent de ce constat : d'où provient le papier utilisé en si grande abondance?Quelles sont les circonstances de l'importation du papier, les sources d'approvisionnement en papier et les voies empruntées pour son transport? Qui sont les utilisateurs du papier et à quelles fins en font-ils usage? L'étude des caractéristiques du papier d'écriture à partir de feuillets originaux du XVIIe siècle provenant des centres d'archives publics et privés au Québec et au Canada permet de déterminer la provenance de ce papier et, de là, les mouvements de sa circulation entre la France et la Nouvelle-France. L'étude positionne aussi les circuits d'approvisionnement qui ont facilité son arrivée dans la vallée du Saint-Laurent. Trois aspects interreliés au papier d'écriture sont également mis en évidence, à savoir les usages auxquels il est destiné, les usagers qui le consomment ainsi que les diverses catégories de documents qui naissent de son utilisation.

Marie-André Duplessis (1687-1760) guided the Augustinian sisters at the Hôtel-Dieu of Quebec - the oldest hospital north of Mexico - where she was elected mother superior six times. Although often overshadowed by colonial nuns who became foundresses or saints, she was a powerhouse during the last decades of the French regime and an accomplished woman of letters. She has been credited with Canada’s first literary narrative, Canada’s first music manual, and the first book by a Canadian woman printed during her own lifetime. In A Touch of Fire, the first biography of Duplessis, Thomas Carr analyzes how she navigated, in peace and war, the unstable, male-dominated colonial world of New France. Through a study of Duplessis's correspondence, her writings, and the rich Hôtel-Dieu archives, Carr details how she channelled the fire of her commitment to the hospital in order to advance its interests, preserve its history, and inspire her sister nuns. Duplessis chronicled New France as she wrote for and about her institution. Her administrative correspondence reveals her managerial successes and failures, and her private letters reshaped her friendship with a childhood Jansenist friend, Marie-Catherine Hecquet. Carr also delves into her relationship with her sister Geneviève Duplessis, who joined her in the cloister and became her managerial and spiritual partner. The addition of Duplessis's last letters provides a dramatic insider's view into the female experience of the siege and capture of Quebec in 1759. A Touch of Fire examines the life and work of an enterprising leader and major woman author of early Canada.

Das Literaturwissenschaftliche Jahrbuch wurde 1926 von Günther Müller gegründet. Beabsichtigt war, in dieser Publikation regelmäßig einen Überblick über neue Forschungsvorhaben und -ergebnisse zu bieten. Darüber hinaus enthielt das Jahrbuch auch Primärliteratur. 1939 verboten die Nationalsozialisten das Periodikum. Im Jahre 1960 wurde unter der Ägide des Germanisten Hermann Kunisch eine Neue Folge begründet, die inzwischen auf nunmehr 50 Bände gediehen ist. In der fächerübergreifenden Zeitschrift werden Beiträge zur Germanistik, Anglistik/Amerikanistik und Romanistik auf Deutsch und in den zu den Fächern gehörenden Sprachen publiziert. Außerdem enthält sie einen umfangreichen Besprechungsteil. Das Literaturwissenschaftliche Jahrbuch ist auf keine Methode festgelegt. Die Herausgeber streben an, auch Beiträge junger Nachwuchswissenschaftler aufzunehmen. Zu den Besonderheiten gehört darüber hinaus, bislang unveröffentlichte literarische Texte zu publizieren.
