This volume contains the papers presented at the third biennial Information Systems Foundations ('Theory, Representation and Reality¿) Workshop, held at The Australian National University in Canberra from 27-28 September 2006. The focus of the workshop was, as for the others in the series, the foundations of Information Systems as an academic discipline. The particular emphasis was, as in past workshops, the adequacy and completeness of theoretical underpinnings and the research methods employed. At the same time the practical nature of the applications and phenomena with which the discipline deals were kept firmly in view. Accordingly, the papers in this volume range from the unashamedly theoretical n their focus (Designing for Mutability in Information Systems Artifacts; Towards a Unified Theory of Fit: Task, Technology and Individual) to the much more practically oriented (An Action-Centred Approach to Conceptualising Information Support for Routine Work).

Studies In Reflecting Abstraction written by Jean Piaget and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-04 with Psychology categories.
This translation of the French Recherches sur l'abstraction reflechissante (1977), make available in English Piaget's only treatise on reflecting abstraction - a process he came to attribute considerable importance to in his later thinking and which he believed to be responsible for many of the advances that take place in human development, especially our understanding of mathematics. Rich with empirical research on reflecting abstraction at work in the thinking of 4 to 12 year olds, the studies in this volume examine its role in many contexts of cognitive development such as: reasoning about mathematics; forming analogies; putting objects in order by size and comparing the resulting series; and navigating through a wire maze. His theoretical discussions explore the relationships between reflecting abstraction and other central processes in his later theory, such as generalization, becoming conscious, and equilibration, as the differentiation of possibilities and their integration into necessities. These discussions indicate which aspects of his later theorizing were settled and which require further thought and investigation. Studies in Reflecting Abstraction will be of interest to developmental and cognitive psychologists, educationalists, philosophers and anyone who seeks to understand human knowledge and its development.

Artificial Intelligence: An Introduction to Big Ideas and their Development, Second Edition guides readers through the history and development of artificial intelligence (AI), from its early mathematical beginnings through to the exciting possibilities of its potential future applications. To make this journey as accessible as possible, the authors build their narrative around accounts of some of the more popular and well-known demonstrations of artificial intelligence, including Deep Blue, AlphaGo and even Texas Hold’em, followed by their historical background, so that AI can be seen as a natural development of the mathematics and computer science of AI. As the book proceeds, more technical descriptions are presented at a pace that should be suitable for all levels of readers, gradually building a broad and reasonably deep understanding and appreciation for the basic mathematics, physics, and computer science that is rapidly developing artificial intelligence as it is today. Features Only mathematical prerequisite is an elementary knowledge of calculus. Accessible to anyone with an interest in AI and its mathematics and computer science. Suitable as a supplementary reading for a course in AI or the History of Mathematics and Computer Science in regard to artificial intelligence. New to the Second Edition Fully revised and corrected throughout to bring the material up-to-date. Greater technical detail and exploration of basic mathematical concepts, while retaining the simplicity of explanation of the first edition. Entirely new chapters on large language models (LLMs), ChatGPT, and quantum computing.

This book presents an authoritative collection of contributions reporting on computational intelligence, fuzzy systems as well as artificial intelligence techniques for modeling, optimization, control and decision-making together with applications and case studies in engineering, management and economic sciences. Dedicated to the Academician of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Professor Janusz Kacprzyk in recognition of his pioneering work, the book reports on theories, methods and new challenges in artificial intelligence, thus offering not only a timely reference guide but also a source of new ideas and inspirations for graduate students and researchers alike. The book consists of the 18 chapters, presented by distinguished and experienced authors from 16 different countries (Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, China, R.N.Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, United States, Ukraine, and Vietnam). All chapters are grouped into three parts: Computational Intelligence and Fuzzy Systems, Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Modelling and Optimization, and Computational Intelligence in Control and Decision Support Processes. The book reflects recent developments and new directions in artificial intelligence, including computation method of the interval hull to solutions of interval and fuzzy interval linear systems, fuzzy-Petri-networks in supervisory control of Markov processes in robotic systems, fuzzy approaches for linguistic data summaries, first-approximation analysis for choosing fuzzy or neural systems and type-1 or type-2 fuzzy sets, matrix resolving functions in game dynamic problems, evolving stacking neuro-fuzzy probabilistic networks and their combined learning in online pattern recognition tasks, structural optimization of fuzzy control and decision-making systems, neural and granular fuzzy adaptive modeling, state and action abstraction for search and reinforcement learning algorithms. Among the most successful and perspective implementations in practical areas of human activity are tentative algorithms for neurological disorders, human-centric question-answering system, OWA operators in pensions, evaluation of the perception of public safety through fuzzy and multi-criteria approach, a multicriteria hierarchical approach to investment location choice, intelligent traffic signal control and generative adversarial networks in cybersecurity.
