La escritura de Lispector, siempre inquisitiva, tiene la peste de las preguntas bien formuladas: sus personajes no cesan de espetarle al lector aquellas preguntas que él, por miedo o desidia, hubiera preferido omitir. Pero a esas preguntas ella no contesta con respuestas, contesta con revelaciones, epifanías que al mismo tiempo dicen y conservan la dura médula del enigma. La obra de Lispector deja testimonio de una voluntad feroz para encontrar, en medio de la lengua y en su límite, el material literal para cernir lo Real de la Vida, del goce, del amor, del asesinato y de la muerte misma ... Esa es la sustancia cierta y material de este encuentro. Para comenzar, el lector encontrará en este libro algunas consideraciones metodológicas en el acercamiento del psicoanálisis a la literatura. Estas páginas insisten sobre un asunto ya planteado por Freud: los artistas siempre han anticipado... Luego, entrará en "La cosa criminal", para discernir, siempre con Lispector, la elusiva maquinaria del paso al acto. Enseguida, hallará en "El bestiario del goce" la proliferante presencia de los animales en la obra de esta autora. Podrá allí ponderar la justa medida para el exilio del goce en que habita este animal lenguajero del cual son. Un paso más y, con "La vida en el germen", estará ante el nódulo real que palpita tras la cambiante figura del animal: la vida en su anonadante persistencia. Para terminar, y sin una conclusión posible, llegará a puerto desconocido con "El acto más desamparado": el acto de escribir cuando no hay guía conocida.

La literatura comparada, aún más que otras ramas de la investigación literaria, se encuentra en la obligación constante de reexaminar sus principios fundadores y sus herramientas metodológicas. Como diría Claudio Guillén, más que un objeto de estudio o una disciplina delimitada de una vez por todas, es "un itinerario abierto, un movimiento inconcluso". De hecho, se puede ver como un campo de experimentación que permite entender mejor muchos problemas importantes de los estudios literarios. En este contexto, los textos publicados en la presente colección no apuntan a algún consenso idílico, sino que abordan, de una manera dialógica y desde el área de interés de cada autor, diferentes aspectos de este espacio de experimentación. Los ensayos abarcan temas tan diversos como el teatro colombiano de los siglos XIX, XX y XXI; las vanguardias latinoamericanas; las relaciones entre autores latinoamericanos y europeos, o las relaciones de algunos autores europeos entre sí o con la literatura rusa.
