Im Fokus stehen dabei die Suche nach Verortung im Zwischenspiel der zwei Kulturen (Russland und Österreich) sowie der zwei Lebensphasen (Kindheit und Erwachsenenalter). Auswirkungen einer Migrationserfahrung auf die Psyche eines Individuums werden – im Angesicht steigender Zahlen von Bevölkerungsbewegungen aufgrund von Flucht vor Kriegen oder Naturkatastrophen sowie zur Erzielung sozialer oder wirtschaftlicher Verbesserungen – von Seiten der interdisziplinären Migrationsforschung und der Sozialpsychologie mit zunehmendem Interesse verfolgt. Die Verortungen zwischen zwei Ländern und Kulturen sind dabei ebenso zentrale Gegenstände wie die Folgen auf die Identität eines Individuums, hinterlässt doch jede Migration Spuren in der persönlichen und familiären Geschichte. Der Lebensabschnitt der Adoleszenz stellt dabei einen besonders kritischen Zeitpunkt dar, indem sich maßgeblich die Identitätsbildung vollzieht. Julya Rabinowich, eine österreichische Autorin mit russischen Wurzeln, thematisiert in ihrem Roman „Spaltkopf“ die vielfältigen Auswirkungen einer Migration: Es ist die Geschichte einer russisch-jüdischen Familie, die nach Österreich emigriert und die die Erfahrungen der adoleszenten Tochter Mischka mit der Entwurzelung aus Russland, den zwanghaften Anpassungsversuchen an die neue Heimat und die daraus resultierenden Identitätskonflikte aufgrund des Zerrissen-Seins zwischen Osten und Westen, der Verdrängung der russischen Herkunft und der Suche nach der eigenen Identität erzählt.

During this time of life, young people experience enormous changes due to physical maturation, which is accompanied by cognitive, social/emotional, and interpersonal changes. It is a period when the influence of parents and families gradually diminishes and the influence of external factors, such as peers; the media; the educational environment; and, more generally, the economic, social, and cultural environments in which they live, are increasingly prominent.
