Adolph Lowe (1893–1995) gehörte in den 1920er Jahren zu den einflussreichsten Ökonomen Deutschlands. Er arbeitete im Wirtschaftsministerium der Weimarer Republik, baute als Leiter der Konjunkturabteilung das Kieler Weltwirtschaftsinstitut entscheidend auf und lehrte Wirtschaftswissenschaften am Institut für Sozialforschung an der Universität Frankfurt. Bis zur Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten. Gemeinsam mit Max Horkheimer, Paul Tillich und Karl Mannheim stand er ab 1933 weit oben auf der Liste der Verfolgten und floh mit seiner Familie über Genf und Paris nach Manchester. Karriere machte er schließlich an der New School for Social Research in New York. Doch anders als viele seiner Freunde und Fachkollegen ist er bisher in Deutschland noch immer recht unbekannt. Dieses Buch möchte das ändern. Die Autorin holt Lowes Werk wieder hervor und bettet es in die aktuelle Wirtschaftsphilosophie ein. Das Buch ist eine Zeitreise in die Weimarer Republik, die Anfänge der deutschsprachigen Konjunkturforschung, Kieler Universitätsgeschichte sowie die Entwicklung des ökonomischen Denkens.
