Individuen, die der genormten Vorstellung eines sozial angepassten Kindes nicht entsprechen und eine Belastung für ihre Umgebung darstellen, werden schnell als hyperaktiv, aggressiv oder verhaltensauffällig tituliert. Bezeichnungen wie ADS oder MCD gehören bereits zum schulischen und gesellschaftlichen alltäglichen Repertoire. Innerhalb dieser Auseinandersetzung wird versucht, Vorurteile im Bezug auf Kinder mit Hyperaktivitäts- und/oder Aufmerksamkeitsproblemen aus dem Weg zu räumen, ferner ein Verständnis für ihr Verhalten zu entwickeln und einen möglichen, geregelten Umgang speziell im schulischen Umfeld aufzuzeigen. Aus erziehungswissenschaftlicher Sicht bedarf es neben einer psychologisch-therapeutischen Begleitung auch in der Schule pädagogisch-didaktisch professionellen Wissens, um den betroffenen Schülern eine bestmögliche Entfaltung ihrer Fähigkeiten zu gewährleisten. Die häufige Reaktion mit Abstoßung und Isolation führt langfristig wohl nicht zu erwünschten Erfolgen. Emotionale Zuwendung, Verständnis und Zeit sind Faktoren die extrem wichtig sind und oft anstelle von Tadel und Umlenkungsversuchen zu kurz geraten. Diese Auseinandersetzung hat zum Ziel, für Eltern, PädagogInnen sowie Betroffene eine Hilfestellung beziehungsweise einen Leitfaden darzustellen. Neben beschriebenen theoretischen Ausführungen und Begründungsfiguren sollen konkrete praxisnahe Elemente Ordnung in teilweise vorherrschende Verwirrung bringen.
