This dissertation introduces a new design for a computer-aided algorithmic music composition system. Rather than exploring specific algorithms, this study focuses on system and component design. The design introduced here is demonstrated through its implementation in athenaCL, a modular, polyphonic, poly-paradigm algorithmic music composition system in a cross-platform interactive command-line environment. The athenaCL system offers an open-source, object-oriented composition tool written in Python. The system can be scripted and embedded, and includes integrated instrument libraries, post-tonal and microtonal pitch modeling tools, multiple-format graphical outputs, and musical output in Csound, MIDI, audio file, XML, and text formats. Software design analysis is framed within a broad historical and intertextual study of the themes, approaches, and systems of computer-aided algorithmic composition (CAAC). A detailed history of the earliest experiments, as well as analysis of the foundational CAAC systems, is provided. Common problems and interpretations of CAAC are then presented in a historical and intertextual context, drawn from the writings and systems of numerous composers and developers. Toward the goal of developing techniques of comparative software analysis, a survey of system design archetypes, based on seven descriptors of CAAC systems, is presented. With this foundation, athenaCL system components are analyzed in detail. System components are divided into abstractions of musical materials, abstractions of musical procedures, and system architecture. For each component, object models, Python examples, and diagrams are provided. Further, each component is given context in terms of its compositional implications and relation to alternative and related models from the history of CAAC.

Perception Of Beauty written by Martha Levine and has been published by BoD – Books on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-25 with Psychology categories.

The authors in this book ask us to consider whether the perception of beauty has been defined by our genetics and culture over the years - has it grown and changed? Do certain neural connections define our emotional reactions to beauty? Does beauty follow any rules or laws? Can the aspiration toward beauty be detrimental? Can we divorce ourselves from dictates and sink into a mindful connection with our internal beauty? Can we move from the superficial where "beauty is only skin deep" to an intense appreciation of beauty in all of its variations. The Perception of Beauty will lead to a deeper understanding and contemplation of nature, art, and the world around us.

Digital Da Vinci written by Newton Lee and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-11 with Computers categories.

The Digital Da Vinci book series opens with the interviews of music mogul Quincy Jones, MP3 inventor Karlheinz Brandenburg, Tommy Boy founder Tom Silverman and entertainment attorney Jay L. Cooper. A strong supporter of science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs in schools, The Black Eyed Peas founding member will.i.am announced in July 2013 his plan to study computer science. Leonardo da Vinci, the epitome of a Renaissance man, was an Italian polymath at the turn of the 16th century. Since the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, the division of labor has brought forth specialization in the workforce and university curriculums. The endangered species of polymaths is facing extinction. Computer science has come to the rescue by enabling practitioners to accomplish more than ever in the field of music. In this book, Newton Lee recounts his journey in executive producing a Billboard-charting song like managing agile software development; M. Nyssim Lefford expounds producing and its effect on vocal recordings; Dennis Reidsma, Mustafa Radha and Anton Nijholt survey the field of mediated musical interaction and musical expression; Isaac Schankler, Elaine Chew and Alexandre François describe improvising with digital auto-scaffolding; Shlomo Dubnov and Greg Surges explain the use of musical algorithms in machine listening and composition; Juan Pablo Bello discusses machine listening of music; Stephen and Tim Barrass make smart things growl, purr and sing; Raffaella Folgieri, Mattia Bergomi and Simone Castellani examine EEG-based brain-computer interface for emotional involvement in games through music and last but not least, Kai Ton Chau concludes the book with computer and music pedagogy. Digital Da Vinci: Computers in Music is dedicated to polymathic education and interdisciplinary studies in the digital age empowered by computer science. Educators and researchers ought to encourage the new generation of scholars to become as well rounded as a Renaissance man or woman.

Handbook Of Artificial Intelligence For Music written by Eduardo Reck Miranda and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-02 with Computers categories.

This book presents comprehensive coverage of the latest advances in research into enabling machines to listen to and compose new music. It includes chapters introducing what we know about human musical intelligence and on how this knowledge can be simulated with AI. The development of interactive musical robots and emerging new approaches to AI-based musical creativity are also introduced, including brain–computer music interfaces, bio-processors and quantum computing. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology permeates the music industry, from management systems for recording studios to recommendation systems for online commercialization of music through the Internet. Yet whereas AI for online music distribution is well advanced, this book focuses on a largely unexplored application: AI for creating the actual musical content.

What Is Computer Audition The branch of study known as computer audition (CA), often known as machine listening, focuses on the development of algorithms and systems for the interpretation of audio by machines. Computer audition is an attempt to bring together different fields that, in the past, worked with particular issues or had a specific application in mind. This is done since the concept of what it means for a machine to "hear" is extremely wide and somewhat hazy. In an interview with Technology Review, the engineer Paris Smaragdis discusses these systems, which he describes as "software that uses sound to locate people moving through rooms, monitor machinery for impending breakdowns, or activate traffic cameras to record accidents." How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Computer audition Chapter 2: Audio signal processing Chapter 3: Music information retrieval Chapter 4: Algorithmic composition Chapter 5: Auditory scene analysis Chapter 6: Computational auditory scene analysis Chapter 7: Machine perception Chapter 8: Music and artificial intelligence Chapter 9: Computational musicology Chapter 10: Sound and music computing (II) Answering the public top questions about computer audition. (III) Real world examples for the usage of computer audition in many fields. (IV) 17 appendices to explain, briefly, 266 emerging technologies in each industry to have 360-degree full understanding of computer audition' technologies. Who This Book Is For Professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and those who want to go beyond basic knowledge or information for any kind of computer audition.
