Afrique 2025 est une réflexion collective menée par Futurs africains, un projet du Programme des Nations unies pour le développement. Elle ne prétend pas dire ce que devrait être l'Afrique de demain. Son objectif est d'explorer les futurs possibles pour l'Afrique au sud du Sahara. Plus de mille Africains répartis dans 46 pays, femmes et hommes, anglophones et francophones, venant des horizons les plus divers, ont été impliqués dans cette exploration. Ils ont d'abord dressé un état des lieux sans complaisance de l'Afrique au début du XXIe siècle, puis ils ont construit quatre scénarios pour les vingt-cinq prochaines années, des scénarios sans langue de bois, ni tabous, auxquels ont été donnés des noms imagés : Les lions pris au piège, Les lions faméliques, Les lions sortent de leur tanière, Les lions marquent leur territoire et ils ont réfléchi aux conditions qui devraient être réunies pour que l'un ou l'autre de ces scénarios devienne réalité. A l'heure du NEPAD et de la naissance de l'Union africaine, les Africains, notamment les hommes politiques, les responsables d'ONG, les entrepreneurs, les leaders d'opinion, les chefs religieux, ont à choisir leur voie et à prendre leurs responsabilités. Le coup de projecteur sur les avenirs possibles que propose Afrique 2025 leur sera utile, et il sera utile aussi aux hommes des autres continents qui souhaitent les aider à progresser dans la voie qu'ils auront choisie. Ces travaux ont été impulsés et coordonnés par Alioune Sall. Jacques Giri a joué le rôle d'observateur extérieur et a assuré leur mise en forme finale.
