Son muchos los inmigrantes y refugiados que mueren en su intento de cruzar la frontera sur y, a veces, las acciones policiales no son ajenas a esas muertes. Esta novela invita a la reflexión sobre la difusa responsabilidad criminal que existe en esos casos. El inspector Samuel Montcada se ve obligado a investigar ciertos crímenes cometidos en la frontera sur para desvelar unos asesinatos producidos en Barcelona. En su recorrido, obtiene información sobre actuaciones concretas de la Guardia Civil española y de los policías y militares marroquíes.
