La ocupación de las universidades y la tremenda represión gubernamental subsiguiente ocurrieron en octubre y noviembre de 1945.1 La situación social era explosiva y las autoridades de facto decidieron adelantar las elecciones para el 24 de febrero de 1946 -sólo tres meses después-, para evitar males mayores. Antes, rechazaron la petición de la oposición para otorgarle a la Corte la organización del escrutinio a efectos de garantizar la neutralidad y el control. Lo cierto es que existió el Estado de Sitio antes y después del sufragio, quitando toda legitimidad al acto. Sin embargo, finalmente el gobierno comunicó el resultado victorioso 45 días después y lo calificó como "el comicio más limpio de todos los tiempos". Perón denuesta el juicio de Nürnberg, designa el primer embajador soviético y comunica con masiva propaganda el insustancial Primer Plan Quinquenal. Destruye la coalición hacedora de su victoria, y establece el Partido Peronista. El Estado aplastó a una parte de la población mediante diversos métodos. Un gran golpe en su estrategia fue la elección de la palabra movimiento para reemplazar a Partido Laborista. Perón le dio un significado de ideologema religioso y doctrinario, convirtiéndolo en una estructura sociopolítica supra partidaria con formato jerárquico, donde él ocupaba el vértice y los demás algún lugar dentro de ella. Desde 1943 la actividad deportiva se convirtió en un objetivo demagógico y pasó a ser parte del aparato de propaganda oficial. Del romanticismo pasamos a un pacto implícito: Perón le daría todo al deporte, incluido el ajedrez, y a cambio los deportistas apoyarían a Perón. La actividad ajedrecística se desarrolló impulsada en buena parte por quienes permanecieron en el país luego del Torneo de las Naciones de 1939, y Gideon Ståhlberg ganó el Torneo Internacional de Paraná en febrero, superando por medio punto a Herman Pilnik. Najdorf arrasó en el IX Torneo Internacional de Mar del Plata perdiendo sólo con Maderna. El cisma del ajedrez nacional continuó con violencia verbal, y fracasaron las gestiones de unidad. Botvínnik desafía a Alekhine a un match por el Campeonato Mundial, pero las gestiones quedan truncas luego del discurso de Churchill del 5 de marzo de 1946 en el que declara la guerra fría. Luego del paréntesis obligado por la guerra, la FIDE comenzó su reorganización mundial en el XVII Congreso de Winterthur, al que concurrieron solamente ocho delegados, sin argentinos. Fue ignorado totalmente el presidente Augusto De Muro, designado en el XVI Congreso realizado en Buenos Aires 1939, y Alexander Rueb tomó las riendas de la organización. Se aprobó la realización de tres torneos internacionales, que serían preliminares al futuro Campeonato Mundial. En ese contexto se organizó el gran Torneo Internacional de Groninga 1946, que fue ganado por Botvínnik, y donde participaron los argentinos Najdorf y Guimard. Najdorf realizó declaraciones altisonantes -proclamó "Yo seré campeón mundial"-, que luego causaron el enojo de Botvínnik y tendrían consecuencias desagradables para él. El match telegráfico España - Argentina formó parte del Pacto Perón - Franco por el cual Argentina envió a España toneladas de cereales. El propio Perón inició el encuentro y el gobierno realizó un despliegue impresionante que incluyó la visita en masa de todo su gabinete y su esposa Eva Duarte. A raíz del cisma del ajedrez argentino, el equipo nacional jugó debilitado y España se impuso inesperadamente por 8:7. Mediante gestiones realizadas principalmente por los diputados John William Cooke y Leopoldo Zara, el Congreso de la Nación otorgó al Club Argentino un subsidio para adquirir su sede definitiva de Paraguay 1858. Apoyaron la ley once congresales: siete radicales -entre ellos Ricardo Balbín y Arturo Frondizi- y cuatro peronistas. Pilnik vence a Rossetto por 5:3 y obtiene el título nacional. 1944: Continúa la guerra mundial y Hitler se muestra desesperado, hiperactivo y verborrágico. Se disuelve el GOU --grupo de coroneles que asestaron el golpe militar-- y Perón asciende vertiginosamente. Se emiten los Decretos por delitos contra la seguridad del estado y secretos militares. El gobierno crea el Consejo Nacional de posguerra. Un fuerte terremoto en San Juan causa 10.000 muertos. Se sanciona el fuero laboral. Fallece Roberto Grau, alma máter del ajedrez argentino. 1945: Braden o Perón; del abismo a la cima. Se acerca la derrota del Eje y se reúne la Conferencia de Chapultepec. Argentina es conminada a firmar las Actas. Argentina declara la guerra al Eje cuando la guerra termina. Llega el embajador Spruille Braden y Perón aprovecha sus ingenuidades y primitivismo, creando la Secretaría de Trabajo. Surge el nombre de Eva. En el Apéndice se incluye un informe sobre los acontecimientos estudiantiles de 1945 (toma de las universidades nacionales), donde fueron detenidos 2700 hombres y 300 mujeres. Este volumen continúa con el desarrollo del ajedrez argentino posterior a El Impresionante Torneo de Ajedrez de las Naciones tomo 3, que abarcó los años 1940/1943. Luego del cuartelazo militar del 4 de setiembre de 1943 se produjo en el país un vacío de poder ostensible, que causó serios daños a la sociedad. Como causas del golpe podemos mencionar la llamada "Década Infame" -comenzada en 1930- que lo precedió, las consecuencias derivadas de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, la situación económica y social, la migración interna, movimientos internos militares que causaron el desplazamiento del general Pedro Pablo Ramírez, la muerte del general Agustín P. Justo -que dejó un gran vacío de liderazgo en las Fuerzas Armadas- y el surgimiento de agrupaciones sociales y políticas nuevas. Las consecuencias fueron la limitación de las libertades sociales individuales, una severa represión que produjo la detención de militantes políticos y gremiales, la clausura de la sede de la Federación Obrera de la Industria de la Carne. Entre otros, fue detenido y enviado al Sur el gremialista comunista José Peter, que estuvo preso sin proceso un año y cuatro meses. Se disolvió el Congreso Nacional y se intervino la Universidad Nacional del Litoral. En el ámbito del ajedrez, luego de la caída de la Comisión Directiva de la FADA en 1941 (De Muro y Grau), tomó el poder el sector del Club Argentino encabezado por Carlos Querencio. Las invitaciones a los torneos fueron direccionadas a los ajedrecistas de esa institución, en tanto eran excluidos los del Círculo. Esta situación llevó al cisma del ajedrez argentino, cuando los tres clubes principales de la ciudad de Buenos Aires -Círculo de Vélez Sarsfield, Club Jaque Mate y Círculo- se separaron de la FADA y fundaron la Asociación Metropolitana con idea de crear en un futuro próximo una Confederación Argentina que nucleara a la Capital y a las federaciones del interior. El fallecimiento de Grau en 1944 a los 44 años fue conmocionante y condicionó gravemente el desarrollo del ajedrez en los siguientes años. la grieta se profundizó, y tanto la FADA como la AMDA rivalizaron en la organización de torneos.
