This volume presents a mix of translations of classical and modern papers from the German Didaktik tradition, newly prepared essays by German scholars and practitioners writing from within the tradition, and interpretive essays by U.S. scholars. It brings this tradition, which virtually dominated German curricular thought and teacher education until the 1960s when American curriculum theory entered Germany--and which is now experiencing a renaissance--to the English-speaking world, where it has been essentially unknown. The intent is to capture in one volume the core (at least) of the tradition of Didaktik and to communicate its potential relevance to English-language curricularists and teacher educators. It introduces a theoretical tradition which, although very different in almost every respect from those we know, offers a set of approaches that suggest ways of thinking about problems of reflection on curricular and teaching praxis (the core focus of the tradition) which the editors believe are accessible to North American readers--with appropriate "translation." These ways of thinking and related praxis are very relevant to notions such as reflective teaching and the discourse on teachers as professionals. By raising the possibility that the "new" tradition of Didaktik can be highly suggestive for thinking through issues related to a number of central ideas within contemporary discourse--and for exploring the implications of these ideas for both teacher education and for a curriculum theory appropriate to these new contexts for theorizing, this book opens up a gold mine of theoretical and practical possibilities.

This is a practical guide to reflective practice for teachers and trainee teachers in the FE and skills sector. Reflective practice is a key element of teaching and this comprehensive and accessible guide introduces and explains this area of practice for trainee and new teachers. It asks ′what is reflective practice?′ and includes an exclamation of the processes of reflection and tips on reflective writing. Many trainees and new teachers need support in reflective practice. Written for all those working towards QTLS, this text gives practical guidance on how to become a reflective practitioner and examines how this relates directly to teaching in the FE and skills sector, and how reflection can benefit teaching. This second edition includes new chapters on ′reflective teaching and learning′ and ′reflection-re-action′, a new Theory Focus feature. Richard Malthouse has extensive knowledge of education and training in the UK and abroad. He currently works in training design and performance needs analysis for a large law enforcement agency. Alongside this, Richard is the director of a successful company offering coaching to individuals. Richard is a Doctor of Education and a Fellow of the Institute of Learning. Implementing Change written by Gene E. Hall and has been published by Prentice Hall this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Educational change categories.

A research-based guide for educators to the practical methods of understanding, evaluating and facilitating the change process. Significantly revised based on student and instructor feedback, the new third edition of Implementing Change continues to examine the ways in which change processes are experienced by those "on the ground" while adding new features, new material and the most current research. Based primarily on the Concerns Based Adoption Model (CBAM), this user-friendly text focuses on introducing constructs that can be used by those engaged in facilitating change processes as well as those who are evaluating and studying change. Rather than maintaining a bird's eye view of change processes, each chapter introduces a research-based, research-verified construct about change that captures the complexity of implementing change and the diversity of reactions to it. With a stress on pedagogical aids, each chapter incorporates practical examples, sample research, case studies, reflection questions and examples of common roadblocks to change.

An international manual is like a world cruise: a once-in-a-lifetime experience. All the more reason to consider carefully whether it is necessary. This can hardly be the case if previous research in the selected field has already been the subject of an earlier review-or even several competing surveys. On the other hand, more thorough study is necessary if the intensity and scope of research are increasing without comprehensive assessments. That was the situation in Western societies when work began on this project in the summer of 1998. It was then, too, that the challenges emerged: any manual, espe cially an international one, is a very special type of text, which is anything but routine. It calls for a special effort: the "state of the art" has to be documented for selected subject areas, and its presentation made as compelling as possible. The editors were delighted, therefore, by the cooperation and commitment shown by the eighty-one contributors from ten countries who were recruited to write on the sixty-two different topics, by the con structive way in which any requests for changes were dealt with, and by the patient re sponse to our many queries. This volume is the result of a long process. It began with the first drafts outlining the structure of the work, which were submitted to various distinguished colleagues. Friedheim Neidhardt of Berlin, Gertrud Nunner-Winkler of Munich, and Roland Eckert of Trier, to name only a few, supplied valuable comments at this stage.

Beyond Fragmentation Didactics Learning And Teaching In Europe written by Meinert Meyer and has been published by Verlag Barbara Budrich this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-30 with Education categories.

There is great diversity in teacher education systems and approaches to learning and teaching practice across Europe, even though the practical everyday problems of the various national education systems may be very similar. Against this background, in the field of research on didactics, learning and teaching it is important to overcome fragmentation and to find common ground. In this book the editors demonstrate how far we have come over recent years in advancing research in the field which has the ultimate aim of improving learning and teaching. The editors recognise the diverging national and local practices as a starting point in searching for common ground and in creating shared understandings. The book is organised in six parts with 26 chapters in which the authors examine whether there is a paradigmatic shift from teaching to learning, take a closer look at various teacher education models and their empirical basis, discuss the importance of subject didactics, curriculum work and lesson planning, and analyse the impact of Information and Communication Technologies on didactical design. Finally, they relate the empirical findings to theory construction and offer proposals to further advance this vital field by increasing levels of international co-operation.
