Este volumen recoge diez propuestas de estudio presentadas en Palma de Mallorca con motivo de las jornadas celebradas durante los días 2, 3 y 4 de abril de 2012 sobre Écfrasis e imitación artística en la poesía hispánica contemporánea. Coordinados por Francisco Díaz de Castro y Almudena del Olmo Iturriarte, profesores ambos de la Universidad de las Islas Baleares, colaboran en él especialistas en poesía hispánica contemporánea –española, catalana y latinoamericana– tratando de afianzar la noción de interculturalidad relacionada con la interartisticidad. Tanto los coordinadores como los autores proceden de distintas universidades e integran distintos equipos de investigación con lo que la reflexión conjunta sale enriquecida por la diversidad: Josefa Álvarez, Luis Bagué Quílez, Ana Gallego Cuiñas, Antonio Jiménez Millán, Juan José Lanz, Carmen Morán Rodríguez, Almudena del Olmo Iturriarte, María Payeras Grau, Álvaro Salvador y Natalia Vara Ferrero. La relación entre poesía y pintura procede de antiguo. Ya Plutarco atribuye a Simónides de Ceos la enunciación la pintura es poesía muda y la poesía es una pintura hablante y Horacio formula la máxima ecfrástica ut pictura poesis. Ambos principios sirven para atestiguar el origen teórico de un diálogo entre los lenguajes de las artes pictóricas y verbales que con el tiempo y en la práctica se hace extensivo a otras modalidades artísticas, fundamentalmente visuales, pero no sólo: escultura, arquitectura, cine, fotografía, música… Tal diálogo, incrementado hoy por el gran desarrollo de las nuevas tecnologías, supone en la posmodernidad poética un intercambio y un cuestionamiento de las formas de representación que adquiere el arte en su función unánime de pensar la vida, cuyo resultado global se certifica en distintas tipologías ecfrásticas puestas al servicio de poéticas de signo muy diverso como técnicas de composición y de clarificación epistemológica, histórica, existencial, sentimental, identitaria y, asimismo, como técnicas exegéticas en el vuelo que permite la consideración de los textos con respecto a las imágenes o a otros referentes artísticos e interdialógicos que los articulan.
