O ordenamento do território configura uma ferramenta incontornável da política de desenvolvimento sustentável e uma temática (complexa e transversal) de grande visibilidade e preocupação científica, política e social no mundo contemporâneo. A dimensão territorial emerge como uma perspetiva incontornável para investigar, interpretar e ajudar a conduzir o desenvolvimento (na perspetiva de processo participado). A reflexão sobre o uso e a gestão prudente do território (considerado um recurso valioso, complexo e frágil) enfatiza cada vez mais a necessidade de encontrar as bases para uma nova cultura territorial. Este trabalho pretende propiciar, de forma sintética (mas sólida e atualizada), uma abordagem científica com preocupações pedagógicas aos temas em análise, destinada em particular aos alunos dos cursos de Geografia e de Turismo, Lazer e Património. O livro retrata os principais eixos estruturantes do ordenamento do território, através de uma análise integradora de escalas e dimensões geográficas, no sentido de contextualizar e explicitar orientações, políticas e intervenções.
