Four new plays. Four new playwrights. THE BOW WOW CLUB by Levy Lee Simon: The reunion of five friends from Harlem opens up a Pandora's box of old wounds, new confrontations and surprises none of them is prepared for. A powerful drama (with laughs) and a tribute to the sustaining power of friendship. CERTAIN SOULS by Ken Javie: Meet a gambler facing the bet of his life, a woman choosing between money and love, a doctor delivering bad news. These eight unique stories remind us that hope and the power of the human spirit unite us all. LAST LOVE by Peter Papadopoulos: An apocalypse outside the door, a disintegrating relationship within. A darkly funny and surreal tale of emotional warfare. MANLY MEN by Bo Wilson: A poignant comedy. In the dense and murky country of relationships, one man searches for The Answer. These four plays present a piercing view into different aspects of modern life. All of them have something to say. All of them say it beautifully. Algonquin Productions has a mission to find the best new plays and move them on to Broadway, Off-Broadway, film and television. This collection is part of that effort, and our continued commitment to showcase extraordinary writing.

An exciting journey seen through the eyes of the Algonquin people. This book paints a vivid picture of the original peoples of North America before the arrival of Europeans. The novel follows the story of Mahingan and his family as they live the traditional Algonquin way of life in what is now Ontario in the early fourteenth century. Along the way we learn about the search for moose and the dramatic rare woodland buffalo hunt, conflicts with other Native nations, and the dangers of wolves and wolverines. We also witness the violent game of lacrosse, the terror of a forest fire, and the rituals that allow Algonquin boys to be declared full-grown men. But warfare is also part of their lives, and signs point to a defining conflict between Mahingan’s nation, its allies the Omàmiwinini (Algonquin), Ouendat (Huron), and the Nippissing against the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois). The battle’s aftermath may open the door to future journeys by Mahingan and his followers.

“A powerful YA novel about identity and prejudice.” —Entertainment Weekly Bijan Majidi is: Shy around girls Really into comics Decent at basketball Bijan Majidi is not: A terrorist What happens when a kid who’s flown under the radar for most of high school gets pulled off the bench to make the winning basket in a varsity playoff game? If his name is Bijan Majidi, life is suddenly high fives in the hallways and invitations to exclusive parties—along with an anonymous photo sent by a school cyberbully that makes Bijan look like a terrorist. The administration says they’ll find and punish the culprit. Bijan wants to pretend it never happened. He’s not ashamed of his Middle Eastern heritage; he just doesn’t want to be a poster child for Islamophobia. Lots of classmates rally around Bijan. Others make it clear they don’t want him or anybody who looks like him at their school. But it’s not always easy to tell your enemies from your friends. Here to Stay is a painfully honest, funny, authentic story about growing up, speaking out, and fighting prejudice.

Who Killed Tom Thomson written by John Little and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-21 with True Crime categories.

Tom Thomson was Canada's Vincent van Gogh. He painted for a period of five years before meeting his untimely death in a remote wilderness lake in July 1917. He was buried in an unofficial grave close to the lake where his body was found. About eight hours after he was buried, the coroner arrived but never examined the body and ruled his death accidental due to drowning. A day and a half later, Thomson's family hired an undertaker to exhume the body and move it to the family plot about 100 miles away. This undertaker refused all help, and only worked at night. In 1956, John Little's father and three other men, influenced by the story of an old park ranger who never believed Thomson's body was moved by the undertaker, dug up what was supposed to be the original, empty grave. To their surprise, the grave still contained a body, and the skull revealed a head wound that matched the same location noted by the men who pulled his corpse from the water in 1917. The finding sent shockwaves across the nation and began a mystery that continues to this day. In Who Killed Tom Thomson? John Little continues the sixty-year relationship his family has had with Tom Thomson and his fate by teaming up with two high-ranking Ontario provincial police homicide detectives. For the first time, they provide a forensic scientific opinion as to how Thomson met his death, and where his body is buried. Little draws upon his father's research, plus recently released archival material, as well as his own thirty-year investigation. He and his colleagues prove that Thomson was murdered, and set forth two persons of interest who may have killed Tom Thomson.

Located in New York's theatre district, the Algonquin Hotel became an artistic hub for the city and a landmark in America's cultural life. It was a meeting place and home away from home for such luminaries as famed wits/authors Alexander Woollcott and Dorothy Parker; Broadway and Hollywood stars, including Tallulah Bankhead and Charles Laughton; popular raconteurs like Robert Benchley; and New York City mayors Jimmy Walker and Fiorello LaGuardia. Observing it all was celebrated author and journalist Konrad Bercovici. Born in Romania, Bercovici settled in New York, where he became known for reporting on its rich cultural life. While digging through an inherited trunk of family papers, his granddaughter, Mirana Comstock, discovered this previously unpublished manuscript on Bercovici's years at the Algonquin Round Table. Lovers of New York lore and fans of American culture will enjoy his vivid, intimate accounts of what it was like to be a member of this distinguished circle.

Among the many who treasure Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada are a small group of leasehold residents who have occupied small corners of the Park since the earliest days of the 20th century. It is a book about their heritage, the depth and breadth of their roots in the community, their traditions and experiences living and settling in the forest 35 miles from the closest town , their passion for Algonquin and its tradition of multiple-use, their community and its activities and their contributions both large and small to the environment and to quality Park experiences for all who visit. Treasuring Algonquin is all about that leasehold community of 300+ leaseholds spread across 19 lakes paralleling for the most part the old railway right-of-way whose forebears were invited by the Ontario Government to establish cottages in the Park. Until 1954 cottagers were welcomed with open arms, support and encouragement. For some families itÕs the fifth generation who are now learning to appreciate Algonquin and its beauty. Most of the time, youÕd hardly know they were there Ð until you run into trouble while paddling on one of the lakes, lose your way, need medical attention or get caught in a storm or a heavy northwind. Then they miraculously appear to provide help and guidance and occasionally save your life. Mostly in residence on weekends from ice-out to ice-in, and for a few weeks in the summer, members of this small but vibrant community of 9000+ extended family members Ôhave become as much a part of Algonquin as the loons and the ladyslippersÕ. Through much Òdetective-workÓ, Clemson has blended current and historical narratives with extensive research, through files seldom searched, to provide a glimpse into the lives of the leaseholders who have treasured their experiences in Algonquin Park throughout the past century.
