Afinal, privilegiando o tema da écfrase, fiamo-nos nos autores da Segunda Sofística, que parecem estar de acordo com Aftônio (Progymnásmata, 10,36,22), quando este diz ἔκφρασίς ἐστι λόγος περιηγηματικὸς ὑπ’ ὄψιν ἄγων ἐναργῶς τὸ δηλούμενον (“écfrase é o lógos descritivo que coloca sob a vista, de forma evidente, o que é explicitado”).
