The Politics Of Polio In Northern Nigeria written by Elisha P. Renne and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07-30 with Medical categories.

In 2008, Northern Nigeria had the greatest number of confirmed cases of polio in the world and was the source of outbreaks in several West African countries. Elisha P. Renne explores the politics and social dynamics of the Northern Nigerian response to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which has been met with extreme skepticism, subversion, and the refusal of some parents to immunize their children. Renne explains this resistance by situating the eradication effort within the social, political, cultural, and historical context of the experience of polio in Northern Nigeria. Questions of vaccine safety, the ability of the government to provide basic health care, and the role of the international community are factored into this sensitive and complex treatment of the ethics of global polio eradication efforts.

Great Presidents Of Nigerian 4th Republic written by Jubril Olabode Aka and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Great Presidents of Nigerian 4th Republic Nigeria has arrived; Nigeria is born again with the most credible April 2011 general and presidential elections in 50 years according to International Community. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, VP Namadi Sambo and INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega deserve national and international honours. President Jonathan won landslide with 23 million votes across all party lines. The 'Promised Land' journey begins in earnest. Nigeria is marching forward steadfastly despite bumps and teething gestation problems to encounter. With 160 Million inhabitants, Nigeria is world's largest concentration of Blacks. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's presidency beginning May 29, 2011 represents the fulfillment of hope, change, salvation, good luck and blessings after decades of military dictatorships between 1966 and 1999. Structured like USA Presidency, bi-cameral Legislature and Independent Judiciary, Nigeria became beloved to International Community sooner than anticipated. With membership in UN, OPEC, Commonwealth of Nations, AU, ECOWAS, NEPAD, Nigeria is seventh world's largest petroleum supplier and fifth supplier to USA. Nigeria is becoming economic super-power - 'Vision 2020' with abundance of oil, gas, bitumen, gold, etc. Nigeria is beautified by Atlantic Ocean, Rivers Niger and Benue, Lake Chad, Tinapa Holiday Resort (world-class), Olumo Rock, Igbesa Free Trade Zone. Nigeria, blessed and protected from natural disasters never witnessed devastating Tsunami, Katrina, volcano, thunderstorm, iceberg, earthquake and mudslide that wipe-out settlements and kill thousands seasonally. International Social Scientists' 4-year survey rated Nigeria as the world's happiest country (2006) while USA, Britain, Japan and Russia were outside the first 10. Also, International Financial Agencies confirmed Nigeria's 35% return on investment as world's highest. Nigeria's incredible hospitality encourages some Americans, Europeans and Asians to become naturalized citizens of Nigeria. Oil-rich country Nigeria, often described as African giant, peace and power broker Nigeria, granted amnesties to secessionists (1970), Niger Delta militants (2009) and settled Bakassi Peninsula dispute with Cameroon (2006) diplomatically. War-mongering super-powers and allies, intimidating and occupying weaker nations illegally, should emulate Nigerian leadership examples of Presidents Obasanjo, Yar'Adua and Jonathan's peaceful conflict resolution best practices for world peace. Wake Up Nigerians! Make Nigeria Great and Prosperous! Failure Is Not An Option! Nigerians Are Tired of Excuses for Avoidable Leadership Indiscretion and Slumber for 50 Years of Independence! Always Put Nigeria First! Change 'Business as Usual'! GOD BLESS THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!

IBB - Smart But Foolish REASONS HE CAN'T BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT chronicles the tenure of one of Africas most dreaded dictators and terrorists, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, a.k.a, IBB. It details the political, social, and economic policies of the former ruler of Africas most populous nation, Nigeria. A self-described evil genius, Babangida led Nigerians through a tortuous and deceptive political and economic transition that ended in a coup detat. Perhaps because of his craftiness, it wasnt until the end of his military career that the dictators ruthlessness and lust for power became obvious. This volume answers most of the unresolved questions about the man known as Maradona by Nigerians. This nickname arose from his widely known skills at cheating and diverting in the same manner as Argentinean soccer genius, Diego Maradona, who infamously cheated to earn victory over England in the 1986 World Cup. Author Abejide Olusegun examines the dictators purported involvement in the murders of Dele Giwa, Ken Saro Wiwa, Mama Vasta, and many others, along with his frequent detention of late legal luminary, Gani Fawehinmi, and his connection to the corrupt Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI). IBB-Smart But Foolish REASONS HE CAN'T BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT attempts answer some of the riddles surrounding IBB and raise questions about any role he may have in Nigerias future.

"When I started my investigation of decorated houses in the walled city of Zaria in late 1976, it was above all to record the rapidly disappearing external wall decorations. Hence, the survey was perceived as a rescue operation to collect as many photographs and drawings as possible before these decorations disappeared altogether, and also to record vital information about them from compound heads living in decorated houses, and from the master craftsmen who created them. During an introductory stock-taking survey we listed nearly one thousand decorated houses. When I concluded the survey in 1985 the material collected included 75 recorded life stories of craftsmen. When I finally completed the manuscript of this book hardly any of the old traditional external wall decorations had survived. It was obvious that traditional wall decoration had become a thing of the past, no longer relevant to the younger generation of compound heads in the city of Zaria, and indeed in most other traditional towns in northern Nigeria." ( From the introduction)

Blacks Greatest Homeland written by Jubil Aka and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-06 with History categories.

In the last six years, Nigeria has broken the grip of dictatorship, poverty, and corruption to emerge as one of Africa's most peaceful nations. A role model for other developing countries, Nigeria now enjoys its position as a peace and power broker, defying the odds of its past. Home to the world's greatest concentration of black people and led by President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria now enjoys economic prosperity and the fruits of democracy. But these successes were fraught with challenges. The denigration and stereotyping of black people created a constant barrier to change, one that was not easily overcome. Dr. Jubril Olabode Aka delivers a compelling portrayal of Nigeria, focusing on the country's emerging force for tolerance and hope. Aka discusses such topics as peaceful conflict resolution, Nigeria's foreign policy, the government's success in eliminating fraud and corruption, and the need to eradicate discrimination. Blacks Greatest Homeland examines Nigeria's history, leadership, and future, offering an honest and positive look at the sweeping changes Nigeria has made in the last decade.
