A novella companion to the bestselling Delta Force series In Dalton Fury's All Lines Black, Syrian militant leader Abu Hamam al-Suri wants to defect from ISIS—an action which will in all likelihood bring about the end of the insurgency. He just wants one thing first. The head of the American commando who killed his son in a raid two years ago. Newly-appointed Secretary of State Bill Mason isn’t above sacrificing American lives to satisfy his ambition, so when al-Suri’s back-channeled demand falls in his lap, he senses an opportunity to settle the score with his old nemesis, Delta Force squadron commander Kolt “Racer” Raynor. When Raynor gets the order to lead a mission into Syria to bag the new ISIS money man, his gut tells him something is fishy, especially since he has been ordered to personally lead the mission. Raynor doesn’t mind leading from the front. In fact, he prefers it. But as soon as the assault team is on the ground, Kolt knows his gut instinct was dead on. The mission is a setup, an ambush intended to take out Raynor and his men. Now Raynor has a new mission: Find out who set him up and why. But to do that, Raynor and the Delta team will have to run the gauntlet—an entire city controlled by enemy fighters.

Runyon Heights, a community in Yonkers, New York, has been populated by middle-class African Americans for nearly a century. This book—the first history of a black middle-class community—tells the story of Runyon Heights, which sheds light on the process of black suburbanization and the ways in which residential development in the suburbs has been shaped by race and class. Relying on both interviews with residents and archival research, Bruce D. Haynes describes the progressive stages in the life of the community and its inhabitants and the factors that enabled it to form in the first place and to develop solidarity, identity and political consciousness. He shows how residents came to recognize common political interests within the community, how racial consciousness provided an axis for social solidarity as well as partial insulation from racial slights, and how the suburb afforded these middle-class residents a degree of physical and social distance from the ghetto. As Haynes explores the history of Runyon Heights, we learn the ways in which its black middle class dealt with the tensions between the political interests of race and the material interests of class.

Dividing Lines written by Andreá N. Williams and has been published by University of Michigan Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-02 with Literary Criticism categories.

One of the most extensive studies of class in nineteenth-century African American literature to date, Dividing Lines unveils how black fiction writers represented the uneasy relationship between class differences, racial solidarity, and the quest for civil rights in black communities. By portraying complex, highly stratified communities with a growing black middle class, these authors dispelled notions that black Americans were uniformly poor or uncivilized. The book argues that the signs of class anxiety are embedded in postbellum fiction: from the verbal stammer or prim speech of class-conscious characters to fissures in the fiction's form. Andreá N. Williams delves into the familiar and lesser-known works of Frances E. W. Harper, Pauline Hopkins, Charles W. Chesnutt, Sutton Griggs, and Paul Laurence Dunbar, showing how these texts mediate class through discussions of labor, moral respectability, ancestry, spatial boundaries, and skin complexion. Dividing Lines also draws on reader responses—from book reviews, editorials, and letters—to show how the class anxiety expressed in African American fiction directly sparked reader concerns over the status of black Americans in the U.S. social order. Weaving literary history with compelling textual analyses, this study yields new insights about the intersection of race and class in black novels and short stories from the 1880s to 1900s.

Club's fifteen best books of 2020 |A Sunday Times best book of the year Selected by students across France to win the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens, David Diop’s English-language, historical fiction debut At Night All Blood is Black is a “powerful, hypnotic, and dark novel” (Livres Hebdo) of terror and transformation in the trenches of the First World War. Alfa Ndiaye is a Senegalese man who, never before having left his village, finds himself fighting as a so-called “Chocolat” soldier with the French army during World War I. When his friend Mademba Diop, in the same regiment, is seriously injured in battle, Diop begs Alfa to kill him and spare him the pain of a long and agonizing death in No Man’s Land. Unable to commit this mercy killing, madness creeps into Alfa’s mind as he comes to see this refusal as a cruel moment of cowardice. Anxious to avenge the death of his friend and find forgiveness for himself, he begins a macabre ritual: every night he sneaks across enemy lines to find and murder a blue-eyed German soldier, and every night he returns to base, unharmed, with the German’s severed hand. At first his comrades look at Alfa’s deeds with admiration, but soon rumors begin to circulate that this super soldier isn’t a hero, but a sorcerer, a soul-eater. Plans are hatched to get Alfa away from the front, and to separate him from his growing collection of hands, but how does one reason with a demon, and how far will Alfa go to make amends to his dead friend? Peppered with bullets and black magic, this remarkable novel fills in a forgotten chapter in the history of World War I. Blending oral storytelling traditions with the gritty, day-to-day, journalistic horror of life in the trenches, David Diop's At Night All Blood is Black is a dazzling tale of a man’s descent into madness.

The Black and White Lines is Shi Collantes fourth book. These words are written in the darkest ink- with the most sting. There is nothing beautiful with the sound you make when you cry without shedding a single tear. This is a massacre of the mind, and the decaying of a soul. These are the things that are never coming back. This is strength. These are fragments of what the world broke. This is for the most loved lies.

A true story told through the eyes of an Officer who served twenty-two months aboard the LST. The ship was scheduled for a six-month tour in the Mediterranean. On January 7, 1952, the ship sailed into a devastating storm, and six hours later, they were losing cargo overboard. In addition to the loss of cargo, the ship is plagued with a navigator threatened with failure to carry out a direct order. In Malta, the LST hits two water barges and one British LCM. Two crewmen were fighting in Naples return to the ship, where one stabs the other; the LST collides with the refueling tanker; two crewmen fighting aboard ship and one threatens the Exec; forty crewmen end up fighting on the main deck; and a duty officer nearly falls overboard. Finally, the ship is beached in Terceria with a large hole in the bottom of its hull. As if that’s not enough, the Captain and Exec bring lady friends aboard the ship; the crew attempts to sail without the Captain and Exec and end up sailing into a force 3 hurricane. Captain Black Mark is the story of all these things. As incredible as it sounds, is it any wonder that the captain develops irrational fixations that his superiors were aware of everything that was happening and that it was these things that prevented him from being promoted.
