As a white man in Amerika, I can tell you that most white people in Amerika, and consequently the world, are racist. However, most of us that are racist have no idea that we're racist. The rest of us are in denial (which itself is racist). Nevertheless, we have no idea that we're racist because we don't understand racism. The majority of us learn about racism through the history of slavery and the subsequent civil rights movement. Due to the limited nature of our exposure and insight to it, we tend to have a very parochial and misguided understanding of racism and how it works. Subsequently, our racist attitudes and beliefs aren't necessarily conscious or intentional decisions that we made. They're usually developed as a result of our misunderstanding of racism. This book outlines and explains some of the most common aspects of the racism that we as white people develop which often go overlooked, unnoticed, and misunderstood. It attempts to clarify the nuances and subtleties of our racism in easy to understand terms. This book attempts to bring to the forefront how attitudes and beliefs that we have, as well as our position in society, are racist developments that we didn't necessarily choose but, now cannot deny.

I don't have a problem with negative reviews that address the content of the book. I don't expect everyone to like it and I welcome constructive criticism. But the negative reviews that attack me and try to assassinate my character as retaliation for exposing their racism are childish and only serve to further expose your bigotry through your defensiveness and unwillingness to self reflect. Let's be clear that all the negative reviews on here are from people who have never read the book. And rather than considering that their perspective could possibly be short sighted or narrow minded and they could learn to do better by opening up their world view and adjusting their own thought process, they have instead allowed their own fragile, hurt, pathetic feelings to motivate their immature behavior by lashing out at me because they felt personally attacked. Anyone who feels personally attacked by the title of this book is only reinforcing the title's truth. The accusations and assumptions that are being written about me are nothing more than some people's defense for being upset that their racism has been pointed out to them in plain sight. I, personally, have never shied away from raising and engaging in the necessary and controversial topics that others are too scared to address. Unfortunately, engaging in these issues also brings with it it's share of cowardly bigots who feel the need to launch personal attacks in retaliation to the exposure of their bigotry. Naturally, the people who launch these attacks do so out of fear, ignorance, arrogance, and of course, outright hatred. These character assassinations are thinly veiled attempts to disguise their shallow intellect and inability for intelligent thought. But, as always, we, as white people, will do anything to keep from being called racist, except not be racist. If you find yourself feeling offended or attacked by this book, it's because you know it to be true but are too scared to face it. Toughen up, Snowflake. Do better. With all that being said: As a white man in Amerika, I can tell you that most white people in Amerika, and consequently the world, are racist. However, most of us that are racist have no idea that we're racist. The rest of us are in denial (which itself is racist). Nevertheless, we have no idea that we're racist because we don't understand racism. The majority of us learn about racism through the history of slavery and the subsequent civil rights movement. This book outlines and explains some of the most common aspects of the racism that we as white people develop which often go overlooked, unnoticed, and misunderstood. It attempts to clarify the nuances and subtleties of our racism in easy to understand terms. Any white person with any shred of desire to eliminate racism will be able to gain a much better understanding of just what it is we're fighting and how to fight it by reading this book.

White Fragility written by Robin DiAngelo and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-07 with Social Science categories.

The International Bestseller 'With clarity and compassion, DiAngelo allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to "bad people." In doing so, she moves our national discussions forward. This is a necessary book for all people invested in societal change' Claudia Rankine Anger. Fear. Guilt. Denial. Silence. These are the ways in which ordinary white people react when it is pointed out to them that they have done or said something that has - unintentionally - caused racial offence or hurt. After, all, a racist is the worst thing a person can be, right? But these reactions only serve to silence people of colour, who cannot give honest feedback to 'liberal' white people lest they provoke a dangerous emotional reaction. Robin DiAngelo coined the term 'White Fragility' in 2011 to describe this process and is here to show us how it serves to uphold the system of white supremacy. Using knowledge and insight gained over decades of running racial awareness workshops and working on this idea as a Professor of Whiteness Studies, she shows us how we can start having more honest conversations, listen to each other better and react to feedback with grace and humility. It is not enough to simply hold abstract progressive views and condemn the obvious racists on social media - change starts with us all at a practical, granular level, and it is time for all white people to take responsibility for relinquishing their own racial supremacy. 'By turns mordant and then inspirational, an argument that powerful forces and tragic histories stack the deck fully against racial justice alongside one that we need only to be clearer, try harder, and do better' David Roediger, Los Angeles Review of Books 'The value in White Fragility lies in its methodical, irrefutable exposure of racism in thought and action, and its call for humility and vigilance' Katy Waldman, New Yorker 'A vital, necessary, and beautiful book' Michael Eric Dyson

Silent Racism written by Barbara Trepagnier and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Vivid and engaging, Silent Racism persuasively demonstrates that silent racism—racism by people who classify themselves as “not racist”—is instrumental in the production of institutional racism. Trepagnier argues that heightened race awareness is more important in changing racial inequality than judging whether individuals are racist. The collective voices and confessions of “nonracist” white women heard in this book help reveal that all individuals harbor some racist thoughts and feelings. Trepagnier uses vivid focus group interviews to argue that the oppositional categories of racist/not racist are outdated. The oppositional categories should be replaced in contemporary thought with a continuum model that more accurately portrays today’s racial reality in the United States. A shift to a continuum model can raise the race awareness of well-meaning white people and improve race relations. Offering a fresh approach, Silent Racism is an essential resource for teaching and thinking about racism in the twenty-first century.

Portraits Of White Racism written by David T. Wellman and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-09-24 with Social Science categories.

First published in 1977, Portraits of White Racism advanced a distinctively sociological theory of racism. Based on five case histories, it critically assessed the prevailing social-psychological paradigm that equated racism with prejudice and provided an alternative interpretation. Racism, the book argued, could be understood as a culturally sanctioned strategy for defending social advantage based on race; it was not simply the product of psychological abnormalities. In this revised edition the theoretical perspective is updated, taking into account recent theorising in the sociology of racism.

Racism is not a simple matter of good people versus bad. In White Fragility, Robin DiAngelo explained how racism is a system into which all white people are socialized. She also made a provocative claim: that white progressives cause the most daily harm to people of colour. In Nice Racism, her follow-up work, she explains how they do so. Drawing on her background as a sociologist and over twenty-five years working as an antiracist educator, she moves the conversation forward. Writing directly to white people as a white person, DiAngelo identifies many common racial patterns and breaks down how well-intentioned white people unknowingly perpetuate racial harm. Writing candidly about her own missteps and struggles, she models a path forward, encouraging white readers to continually face their complicity and embrace courage, lifelong commitment and accountability. Nice Racism is an essential work for any white person who wants to take steps to align their values with their actual practice, and offers people of colour an 'insider's' perspective which may be helpful for navigating whiteness.

Racism takes many forms and can happen in many places. It includes prejudice, discrimination or hatred directed at someone because of their colour, ethnicity or national origin. People often associate racism with acts of abuse or harassment. However, it doesn't need to involve violent or intimidating behaviour. Take racial name-calling and jokes. Or consider situations when people may be excluded from groups or activities because of where they come from. Racism can be revealed through people's actions as well as their attitudes. It can also be reflected in systems and institutions. But sometimes it may not be revealed at all. Racism is more than just words, beliefs and actions. It includes all the barriers that prevent people from enjoying dignity and equality because of their race. To learn more about racism, BUY THIS BOOK NOW!
