O culto às almas benditas (almas milagrosas, mártires milagrosos, etc) é muito presente em todo o Brasil. Acredita-se que pessoas mortas, em especial aquelas que vieram a óbito de forma muito sofrida (diz-se que o sofrimento expia os pecados da carne) ou as que foram boas e castas, possam interceder junto a Deus e aos Santos (em uma visão cristã) ou junto aos deuses (na visão de religiões politeístas) em favor dos vivos. Há quem diga que os milagres são concedidos diretamente pelos mártires. No Piauí são muitos os que procuram obter graças milagrosas junto às almas, cultivando verdadeiros ritos de fé a alguns finados que foram canonizados não pela igreja, mas pela gente desse estado, que os elegeu Santos Populares. Assim, fazem preces, mediante promessas, visando alcançar favores milagrosos em situações de apuros e aflições. Em agradecimento, cumprem com o prometido depositando ex-votos e orações, muitas vezes após intensa caminhada, tornando cada vez mais forte a devoção, inspirando e alimentando a própria fé e a de outros. O livro de José Gil traz um extenso rol de almas milagrosas que conseguiu identificar Piauí afora, apresentando um pouco da história dessas pessoas quando vivas, explicitando como morreram, bem com detalhes do culto dedicado a elas após sua morte. Os locais de devoção são, normalmente, lugares associados à alma, seja o ponto de sua morte, seja o túmulo em que se encontra sepultada. Ali os fiéis erguem cruzeiros, santuários e/ou capelinhas em homenagem aos seus protetores. A apresentação fica por conta de Rafael Nolêto (Jornalista e Relações Públicas; Sacerdote do Politeísmo Piaga - Piaganismo - e fundador da comunidade Vila Pagã - em José de Freitas, PI. Pesquisador de Mitologia, Bruxaria e Religiosidades, tendo diversos livros publicados sobre os temas, dentre os quais Mitologia Piaga ) e o prefácio por Michelliny Verunschk (autora de vários livros, entre os quais Nossa Teresa - Vida e Morte de uma Santa Suicida , e pesquisadora do grupo Comunicação e Cultura – Barroco e Mestiçagem, da PUC São Paulo. Comprehensive examination of how Indigenous peoples have been represented in Argentine film. Affectual Erasure examines how Argentine cinema has represented Indigenous peoples throughout a period spanning roughly a century. Cynthia Margarita Tompkins interrelates her discussion of films with the ethnographic context of the Indigenous peoples represented and an analysis of the affective dimensions at play. These emotions underscore the inherent violence of generic conventions, as well as the continued political violence preventing Indigenous peoples from access to their ancestral lands and cultural mores. Tompkins explores a broad range of movies beginning in the silent period and includes both feature films and documentaries, underscored by archival and contemporary film stills. She traces the initial erotic projection, moving through melodrama to the conventions of the Western, into the 1960s focus on decolonization, superseded by allegorical renditions and the promise of self-expression in late twentieth-century documentaries. Each section includes an introduction to the sociohistorical events of the period and their impact on film production. Analyzed chronologically, the films evidence different stages in the projection of the hegemonic Argentine imaginary, which fails to envision the daily life of Indigenous peoples prior to conquest or in colonial timesand remains in denial of their existence in the present. Cynthia Margarita Tompkinss book is the most comprehensive analysis of the cinematic representations of Argentinean Indigenous peoples ever written.
