Ann Pettit - Bucks beautiful, charming and intelligent wife. Rudolph Eisenstein - an elderly, but brilliant, lawyer. Elizabeth Breckenridge -a widow, Beth, as she is known to her friends, is the principal stockholder and president of he Breckenridge State Bank. Like Ann Pettit, Beth, as she is known by her friends, is a very beautiful, intelligent and charming woman. She is also a crack shot with the small .25 caliber hand-gun she carries in her purse, as Buck fi nds out at a critical moment in the investigation. The last two members of the investigation team are Irv Hodges and Will Cox, two precocious 13 year old lads who became friends when Will, or Bill as Irv was want to call him, moved to town with his parents in the summer of 1938. Buck had picked Irv to help because he had been instrumental in catching and convicting the murderer of Margaret Wilson, just three years prior, and at the insistence of Irv had allowed Will (Bill) to come along. Along Came Bill, is a fast moving thriller that will keep you wanting more. It is a sequel to Gotcha! and most of the same characters help out in solving the murder of Shirley McBride."

At the end of World War II, the young girl had no idea she was the answer to a dying old man's prayer when along came a soldier into her life. Whether it was the power of the unknown prayer or the persistence of the soldier, that chance meeting changed her life into a roller coaster ride that was filled with fun and zany antics. Along Came a Soldier is a page turner in the style of June Harman Betts' first two books, Father Was A Caveman and We Were Vagabonds. It recreates the life of an American family immediately following World War II into the turbulent years of the Vietnam War. COMMENTS FROM ACTUAL READERS: I enjoyed June Harman Betts' articles in our local paper for years. Needless to say, I was thrilled to hear that she had written a book. AND WHAT A READ! ...As she did so well in her newspaper articles, she takes us to a place of memories, romance, heart-filled times of joy and sorrow-all while sharing the still unwinding story of our greatest generation. Dianne Cline, Denison University ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As June Harman Betts pens the true story of the family's history, one becomes riveted by the highlights and heartbreaks of this intriguing family. The reader is drawn into the family's history with her ability to bring back memories of the reader's own bygone days through her vivid description of the various areas of the country where the family lived. One looks forward to her third book as she continues to weave her story with the young girl's marriage to a young soldier and their life together. James Ritchey, Newark, Ohio ...Father Was A Caveman was so great, especially when it described days of long ago. I enjoyed it so much and also the sequel, We Were Vagabonds. June Harman Betts is a wonderful author. I could not put the book down. Even though I read it from the library in Petersburg, West Virginia, I had to order my own copy for future generations. 'A uniquely charming and enticing journey through a remarkable life. Coward's own record is made all the more delightful by the wise and helpful interpolations of Barry Day, the soundest authority on the Master that there is.' Stephen Fry 'Precise, witty, remarkably observed and gloriously English' Dame Judi Dench 'Barry Day's analysis is both perceptive and irresistible' Lord Richard Attenborough With virtually all the letters in this volume previously unpublished - this is a revealing new insight into the private life of a legendary figure. Coward's multi-faceted talent as an actor, writer, composer, producer and even as a war-time spy(!), brought him into close contact with the great, the good and the merely ambitious in film, literature and politics. With letters to and from the likes of: George Bernard Shaw, Virginia Woolf, Winston Churchill, Greta Garbo (she wrote asking him to marry her), Marlene Dietriech, Ian Fleming, Graham Greene, Evelyn Waugh, Fred Astaire, Charlie Chaplin, FD Roosevelt, the Queen Mother and many more, the picture that emerges is a series of vivid sketches of Noel Coward's private relationships, and a re-examination of the man himself. Deliciously insightful, witty, perfectly bitchy, wise, loving and often surprisingly moving, this extraordinary collection gives us Coward at his crackling best. A sublime portrait of a unique artist who made an indelible mark on the 20th century, from the Blitz to the Ritz and beyond.

Dick Stewart was recently inducted into the 2016 New Mexico Music Hall of Fame Richard Stewart is one of those large numbers of fanatical early ’60s rock-and-roll guitarists, who never received national attention and all its glory but, instead, came darn close regardless of the frequent and, on occasion, precarious roadblocks that he encountered, especially during the innocent years of early rock and roll. He endured excessive corporal punishment at school and at home; he explored and mapped privately owned lots in which he and his neighborhood, preteen gang members built forts; he was a Pachuco in an Hispanic gang while in high school; he witnessed despicable bigotry toward Native Americans, Mexican Americans, and African Americans; he fought forest fires in the Pacific Northwest, one of which nearly took his life; he suffered extreme hazing at the hands of his Kappa Sigma active brothers at the University of New Mexico; and the arrival of the Beatles in America dashed his dream of having a national, rock-in-roll guitar instrumental hit. All musicians, high profile or not, of this new mainstream music genre that the teens embraced and called their very own, have an interesting story to tell, but most of the wannabe breakout artists just keep putting it off. Well, this writer didn’t. Stewart’s experiences from the moment the Second World War ended in July of 1945 to the beginning of the psychedelic rock period in 1967 are just too powerful, suspenseful, historic, excruciating, humorous, scary, and on occasion, downright life threatening that needs to be told in detail. This is a read that you will have difficulty putting down.

Another beautiful mind gives us a rare opportunity to experience the torments of hallucinations, delusions and anxieties a biochemical brain disorder can bring. In her most recent book, ALONG CAME A SPIDER: A PERSONAL LOOK AT MADNESS, author Maryanne Raphael shares with us her intimate feelings, deepest pain, and eventual recovery. Her words are not the usual definitions and descriptions found in mental health literature, but those of a lifelong journal keeper as she endures hospitalizations and the periods in between. She shows the universality of mental illness as she keeps writing through her crises in Brazil, Morocco, New York, California and Hawaii. And finally she gives us hope that those who suffer from a mental illness can live a stable, productive life. From her home base in Carlsbad, CA., Maryanne now travels the globe, continues her writing career and is an inspiration to all. ‘In so many ways, although personal accounts are at times difficult to read, this is a book celebrating the victory of the human spirit over personal tragedy. It is not a book of tears and sad stories, but inspiring lives where you cheer for sexual abuse survivors who show the way with courage to rebuild their lives and not let their experiences frame or shame them.’ – Dr Darlene Barriere, Trauma and Child Abuse Counsellor and Psychologist In this confronting collection by victims of child sexual abuse, you will read not only of their horrific experiences as children, but also of their lifetime of living with the consequences and aftereffects of that abuse. There has been silence for too long, and these stories, uncomfortable though they may be to read, should be hidden no longer. The contributors need a voice. They come from various backgrounds: white, Asian, Indigenous, Jewish – male and female. It is important that their individual stories are told, and we honour their courage in giving their accounts to show the world that the scourge of child sexual abuse must be brought to light, and hopefully help our society to no longer allow it to be hidden or suppressed. The aim of this book is to to encourage other victims to seek help and redress; also useful for healers and therapists of child sex abuse survivors and other traumatised people. ‘There is a need to hear these stories, to know what did happen and what is still happening. A need to not bury our heads and say “it won't happen to me” or “I will never let that happen to MY kid.”’ – Lauren White
