Some might say we are what we inherit. Others may suggest that one ought to ponder over where we come from, claiming that it serves as a moral compass and guides us on our journey through life. Our lives would scarcely be interesting if we were able to predict the details of our destination. Instead one should savour the experiences and embrace the journey. Amelia Binneman was a farmer's daughter, a Boer woman whose light shone brightly. From the outset she had a clear perception of the life she wanted, a life etched in her dreams and expectations. One night of passion during her final year at school changed everything. All the dreams she had and the pledges she ever made, were in jeopardy. It prompted her into leaving the Cape Colony and joining her parents on a journey to Springfontein, a remote village in the Republic of the Orange Free State, where they began farming. The story is told against the background of the Anglo Boer War in 1899 and describes Amelia's journey of survival, taken by women and children. It tells of the gold rush on the Witwatersrand and how the leaders chose war while grasping at greed, allowing the option of peace to pass them by. It explores the lives of ordinary people who were caught up in the turmoil of this war, some of whom were incarcerated in refugee camps. It tells of an intrepid group of people, who abandoned their farm to escape the dominance of the British, and who were given refuge by a Koranna tribe in a settlement near the Basotholand border. It is here that Amelia meets the benevolent Chief Thaba and the intimidating Pulani, a sangoma with whom she forges a relationship and discovers a remarkable cure for one of the many ailments that ravaged the lives of children during the war. After learning that her mother Helena and companion Mieta were captured and relocated to a new camp at Norvals Pont, Amelia and her son Daniel attempt a daring mission to rescue them. The story describes the events that led Amelia's father Christoffel Binneman, to assist Generals De la Rey, De Wet and others, before they assembled at Melrose House in Pretoria on the 31st May 1902, to sign the Peace Treaty of Vereeniging. It describes the futility of this war.

Wildcat is an uproariously funny, surprisingly touching story of one woman’s journey through motherhood and female friendship, in a society that plays fast and loose with information. New mother, aspiring writer, and former shopgirl Leanne has lost her way. As she struggles with both her grief and the haze of motherhood, it also becomes clear that her best friend, the default queen of East Side Los Angeles, Regina Mark, might not actually be a friend at all. As Leanne begins to investigate and undermine Regina, she also strikes up an unexpected friendship with the lauded writer Maxine Hunter. Feeling frustrated and invisible next to Regina’s wealth and social standing, Leanne seeks security wherever she can find it, whether that’s by researching whether she should vaccinate her son, in listening to the messages she thinks her father is sending from beyond the grave, or in holding her own against a petulant student in her creative writing class. Most of all, however, she looks for it within Maxine, who offers Leanne something new. With a keen eye for the trappings of privilege, class, and the performative nature of contemporary domestic life, Amelia Morris’s tender and wicked debut shows us a woman who bucks against the narrative she’s been fed, only to find power in herself and the truth that emerges.

Amelia James grew up performing on the stage. Her stunning voice made her the darling of New York's theater district since she was fifteen. She's never been more than an asset to her mother, never been just a woman to the young up-and-coming men who want to use her to advance their own careers. Amelia loves to sing, but is willing to give up fame, fortune and her future on the stage for just one thing...love. Convinced she'll never find what she needs in New York, she makes the daring decision to leave her life behind and travel to the other side of the country as a mail order bride in San Francisco where she won't be anything more than a wife, where her future husband will look into her eyes and see her heart. Wealthy prospector Phillip Dumont learned how to take care of himself from a very young age. With his father’s death, his mother decided to follow her dream and she abandoned her family when he was eighteen years old. Phillip raised a house full of younger siblings on his own. Now, his youngest sibling, his sister, is in need of a woman's touch. Phillip knows he'll never trust a woman enough to give her his heart, and decides a mail order bride will provide a soft touch for his sister and keep the gold-digging women at bay. But Phillip is in for a shock. He is instantly attracted to his new wife and tempted to trust her with more than his name. No matter how vehemently Phillip demands obedience from his wife, his sister and his heart, not one will listen. When an old partner seeking revenge comes for his bride, will Phillip be able to see beyond the secrets of her past to save his family?
