North America In Question written by Jeffrey McKelvey Ayres and has been published by University of Toronto Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-01 with Political Science categories.

Can North America survive as a region in light of the political turbulence provoked by the global economic crisis? Or have regional integration and collaboration reached a plateau beyond which disintegration is likely? In North America in Question, leading analysts from Canada, the United States, and Mexico provide theoretically innovative and rich empirical reflections on current challenges sweeping the continent and on the faltering political support for North American regionalism. This collection begins by reviewing the recent trajectories and events that have undermined North America's trilateral relationship, then addresses concerns that go beyond NAFTA and economic issues, including labour, immigration, energy, the environment, quality of citizenship, borders, women's and civil society struggles, and democratic deficits. Although demonstrating that many informal dimensions of North American integration continue to flourish, the contributors assess whether the future will hold greater economic instability, security crises, and emerging bilateral relationships.

Question Bridge assembles a series of questions posed to black men, by and for other black men, along with the corresponding responses and portraits of the participants. The questions range from the comic to the sublimely philosophical: from Am I the only one who has problems eating chicken, watermelon, and bananas in front of white people?toWhy is it so difficult for black American men in this culture to be themselves, their essential selves, and remain who they truly are? The answers tackle the issues that continue to surround black male identity today in a uniquely honest, no-holds-barred manner. While the ostensible subject is black men, the conversation that evolves in these pages is ultimately about the nature of living in a post-Obama, post-Ferguson, post-Voting Rights Act America. Question Bridge is about who we are and what we mean to one another. Most critically, it asks: how can we start to dismantle the myths and misconceptions that have evolved around race and gender in America--and how can we reset the narrative about ourselves, just as #blacklivesmatter has reset the narrative of civil protest? Question Bridge: Black Males was originally created by Chris Johnson in 1996, the project was revived by Hank Willis Thomas, Kamal Sinclair, and Bayeté Ross Smith who filmed over 150 black men in nine American cities. This content was used to create a five-screen video installation that has been exhibited at over thirty-five institutions, including the Brooklyn Museum; Oakland Museum of California; Birmingham Museum of Art; Cleveland Museum of Art; Milwaukee Art Museum; California African American Museum, Los Angeles; DuSable Museum of African American History, Chicago; Exploratorium, San Francisco; Missouri History Museum, St. Louis; Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture, Charlotte, NC; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York; and New Frontier exhibition at Sundance Film Festival, Park City, Utah. The Question Bridge Project includes various platforms, an interactive website and mobile app, as well as community roundtable conversations and a curriculum designed for high school learners. The founding artists, along with contributions from Ambassador Andrew Young, Jesse Williams, Rashid Shabazz, and Delroy Lindo, will introduce and contextualize the body of the work and provide closing remarks on our current and future social climate.

Native America And The Question Of Genocide written by Alex Alvarez and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-14 with Social Science categories.

Did Native Americans suffer genocide? This controversial question lies at the heart of Native America and the Question of Genocide. After reviewing the various meanings of the word “genocide,” author Alex Alvarez examines a range of well-known examples, such as the Sand Creek Massacre and the Long Walk of the Navajo, to determine where genocide occurred and where it did not. The book explores the destructive beliefs of the European settlers and then looks at topics including disease, war, and education through the lens of genocide. Native America and the Question of Genocide shows the diversity of Native American experiences postcontact and illustrates how tribes relied on ever-evolving and changing strategies of confrontation and accommodation, depending on their location, the time period, and individuals involved, and how these often resulted in very different experiences. Alvarez treats this difficult subject with sensitivity and uncovers the complex realities of this troubling period in American history.

The Labor Question In America written by Rosanne Currarino and has been published by University of Illinois Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-01 with Political Science categories.

In The Labor Question in America: Economic Democracy in the Gilded Age, Rosanne Currarino traces the struggle to define the nature of democratic life in an era of industrial strife. As Americans confronted the glaring disparity between democracy's promises of independence and prosperity and the grim realities of economic want and wage labor, they asked, "What should constitute full participation in American society? What standard of living should citizens expect and demand?" Currarino traces the diverse efforts to answer to these questions, from the fledgling trade union movement to contests over immigration, from economic theory to popular literature, from legal debates to social reform. The contradictory answers that emerged--one stressing economic participation in a consumer society, the other emphasizing property ownership and self-reliance--remain pressing today as contemporary scholars, journalists, and social critics grapple with the meaning of democracy in post-industrial America.

Tackling America S Toughest Questions written by Francis Boyle and has been published by SCB Distributors this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-04-28 with Political Science categories.

Francis A. Boyle may be one of the few international lawyers to have been extensively interviewed by most of the world's major media, both in the United States and abroad--in testament to the stature of his clients, the significance of events in which he has played a role, and to his worldwide reputation for combining international legal expertise with keen political insight. Over a long professional career, his expertise has extended to a wide range of issues related to war and peace: conflicts in the Middle East, Bosnia and elsewhere, nuclear disarmament, biowarfare, and the self-determination rights of oppressed peoples. On September 13, 2001, Boyle's interview on The O'Reilly Factor (FOX News) was explosive. There, he stood up to O'Reilly's drumbeat for war in reaction to the 9/11 terrorist attack, lucidly outlining the politico-legal case against war and speaking directly to the American people. It marked a turning point in his relations with the mainstream American media. The Boyle interviews in this collection reflect the kind of authoritative, objective insight now available in the United States primarily through its alternative media. Here, Francis Boyle addresses hard-hitting questions on the many troubling aspects of US policy since September 11, 2001--the war in Afghanistan from the initial US military intervention to its 2008 escalation, the war on terrorism, Iraq, Iran, Guantanamo, the Patriot Act, impeachment, torture, the antrax attacks, and domestic infringements of the constitution. His insight on domestic and international events, in the framework of both law and politics, provides a comprehensive orientation to understanding the most significant events of the past decade.
