As a "middle market" collector for more than 25 years, I have gained considerable insight into the market for American antiques through meticulous research, conversations with leading dealers and auction house specialists, and my own personal experience. Over that time I have been able to pierce the veil that masks the secrets of the auction houses and dealer community. This book sheds light on that mysterious domain by recounting a series of personal collecting experiences, in order to share what I have learned with the buyers and collectors of the future. While the internet has brought transparency to numerous markets that historically operated in the shadows, the market for American antiques remains opaque to all but professional dealers and major collectors.
