A new aircraft is launched. Everybody was excited about its maiden flight. People were gearing up for its take off and the crew was ready to fly it over the stratosphere. Suddenly, the plane lost contact with the ATC while still in mid-air. The airport went chaotic and the media immediately jumped onto the scene asking various questions. Meanwhile, the government sent its naval fleets and Air Force to search for the plane in and around the Indian Ocean. Rough seas hinder the search party, and finally, it is discovered on the sea bed. When investigations begin, various questions pop up and various discoveries are made. But nothing seems to fit in and the puzzle keeps getting complicated. The investigators were confused as to what the real cause of the crash was. But they just knew that superstition was not the final answer. While the black box revealed some interesting facts, the chemical tests on various parts had another story to tell. Will the investigators analyze the whole scene and solve the puzzle or will the smoke stand still?

Patricia T. Sabin. I was born in Alberta, Canada. In our little town of Mountain View we could always see the clouds. In the summer my sister Lorna and I would lay in the tall grass and look up at the sky and watch the clouds move around the world. We could imagine different forms as we watched the clouds. Some looked like animals, some looked like smoke signals and some were just Beautiful. So it was that I gained a love for the Clouds. I am especially in awe with the beautiful Sunsets here in Utah and the days when the skies are so blue and filled with fluffy white Clouds, gently pushing each other around the World.

‘A masterpiece’ The Sunday Times ‘The pure essence of trail running, infectious and captivating’ Scott Jurek, bestselling author of Eat and Run ‘One of the best books about the extremes of sporting endeavour that you will ever read’ Independent on Sunday Twenty years since it was first published, Feet in the Clouds by Richard Askwith remains the definitive story of fell-running and a modern sports classic. Richard Askwith’s journey takes him into a world of forbidding rocky hills, horizontal rain, fear, exhaustion and stunning natural beauty, as well as one of the sport's purest and toughest challenges: the Bob Graham Round, running 42 Lake District peaks in 24 hours. Along the way, he encounters some of the most prodigious – and unsung – athletes that Britain has produced, such as Joss Naylor, who covered the equivalent of four Everests in a single run. Gripping, funny and moving, Feet in the Clouds is a story that any aspiring runner, endurance athlete or mountain-lover will understand well: of extremity, heroism and the experience of a lifetime. With a fully revised epilogue and an introduction from bestselling author Robert Macfarlane, this is a complete portrait of one of the few sports to have remained utterly true to its roots – in which the point is not fame or fortune but to run the ancient, wild landscape, and to be a hero, if at all, within one’s own valley.

Faces In The Clouds written by Stewart Elliott Guthrie and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-04-06 with Religion categories.

Religion is universal human culture. No phenomenon is more widely shared or more intensely studied, yet there is no agreement on what religion is. Now, in Faces in the Clouds, anthropologist Stewart Guthrie provides a provocative definition of religion in a bold and persuasive new theory. Guthrie says religion can best be understood as systematic anthropomorphism--that is, the attribution of human characteristics to nonhuman things and events. Many writers see anthropomorphism as common or even universal in religion, but few think it is central. To Guthrie, however, it is fundamental. Religion, he writes, consists of seeing the world as humanlike. As Guthrie shows, people find a wide range of humanlike beings plausible: Gods, spirits, abominable snowmen, HAL the computer, Chiquita Banana. We find messages in random events such as earthquakes, weather, and traffic accidents. We say a fire "rages," a storm "wreaks vengeance," and waters "lie still." Guthrie says that our tendency to find human characteristics in the nonhuman world stems from a deep-seated perceptual strategy: in the face of pervasive (if mostly unconscious) uncertainty about what we see, we bet on the most meaningful interpretation we can. If we are in the woods and see a dark shape that might be a bear or a boulder, for example, it is good policy to think it is a bear. If we are mistaken, we lose little, and if we are right, we gain much. So, Guthrie writes, in scanning the world we always look for what most concerns us--livings things, and especially, human ones. Even animals watch for human attributes, as when birds avoid scarecrows. In short, we all follow the principle--better safe than sorry. Marshalling a wealth of evidence from anthropology, cognitive science, philosophy, theology, advertising, literature, art, and animal behavior, Guthrie offers a fascinating array of examples to show how this perceptual strategy pervades secular life and how it characterizes religious experience. Challenging the very foundations of religion, Faces in the Clouds forces us to take a new look at this fundamental element of human life.
