Esta obra conmemorativa es una celebración crítica del surgimiento y evolución de una figura jurídica con rasgos propios y únicos en México: el amparo directo. Entre algunas personas existe la errónea creencia de que la garantía constitucional que estudiamos es una institución circunscrita a la familia jurídica del common law. La confusión, tal vez, puede explicarse por el origen histórico de la institución y el significado dual de la expresión due process of law en el sistema jurídico de los Estados Unidos de América en el cual, como ya hemos señalado, es una garantía de derecho material y de orden procesal. El grupo de investigación en Justicia Constitucional del Departamento de Derecho Constitucional de la Universidad Externado de Colombia se complace en publicar el libro Acción de tutela, texto que forma parte de la serie Garantías judiciales de la Constitución.
