This is the virtually unknown story of Gustav Sabac el Cher. Gustav, a black man with a gift for discipline and music, grew up in Königsberg and became "the only black bandmaster of the German Army."This fact-filled story takes the reader back in time, over 150 years ago. There we meet the controversial Prussian Prince Albrecht, getting to know him via his travel adventures, as well as in war. Prince Albrecht brought many things from Arabia back to Prussia, one of which was a 'human gift' from the Egyptian Viceroy Muhammad Ali: a seven-year-old dark-skinned boy. He was given the name August Albrecht Sabac el Cher and accompanied the Prince from that point on.The social climate of the Prussian state of the 40s and 50s was one of curiosity towards "others," not hostility. August's dark skin greatly benefited him, in fact. His career at Court flourished. In 1867, he married a German woman, Anna Maria Jung, the daughter of a Berlin clothesmaker. While the happy couple lived relatively trouble free in Germany, their two children, Gustav and Elise, were dealt a different fate, as were their children who came of age in NAZI GERMANY.Utilizing photos, records, and eyewitness accounts, this wonderful little book paints a comprehensive picture of the whole family. One learns, for example, that Gustav's sons, Herbert and Horst, were deeply loved by all. Both mastered music early on and both pursued professional careers. While Herbert continued in this vein with measurable success, Horst was not so fortunate. In 1943 he was drafted as a Wehrmacht medic! You'll have to read the book to find out what happened...On the Web: https://blackwolftetralogy.wordpress.com/

Unlike "AN AFRO-GERMAN FAMILY IN NAZI GERMANY", which is an amazing case study of "otherness" in Nazi Germany, this second book in Ms. Kuzniar's "Black Wolf" tetralogy tackles a multitude of related topics and themes, thus providing readers with several accounts of "otherness". Contrary to what mainstream history dictates, Nazi Germany was far more practical, reasonable, and tolerant vis-à-vis race, race-mixing, ethnicity, and international relations than one might think. With this one-of-a-kind survey, analysis, and synthesis of both mainstream and revisionist portrayals of "otherness" in Nazi Germany, Ms. Kuzniar lays the groundwork for much, if not all, future research in this very neglected area of Third Reich studies. She has tapped so many rare and valuable sources, and offers such intriguing insight into her selected sources, that one cannot possibly know the Third Reich without reading this book. She skillfully explains and evidences her "BLACK NAZIS" thesis, meanwhile offering so many fresh new perspectives on this passe era of history that one will be shocked to learn so much new information. On the Web: https://blackwolftetralogy.wordpress.com/

**Note: This Wehrwolf book is so large (at over 1,300 pp.) that it consists of three books. This one listed here is the first in the set of three. A "black holocaust" that commenced under the German Kaiser, Jewish genocide, Aryan supermen bred to dominate the world under Nazism's mad tutelage, thousands of death camps, mad German doctors drunk on human experimentation, Slavs slaughtered mercilessly because they are "subhumans," and a World War that was started by the "most lethally racist regime" in modern history. Can one historian undermine so many indisputable facts about "Hitlerdeutschland"? You bet. EXCERPT: ...."Hitler in fact spoke about this issue - the threat of 'blond-haired, blue-eyed' pure race theories - to one of his early confidants (1929 - 1933), Otto Wagener. He announced a racial reorientation during his 1933 Nuremberg Party Day speech. Hitler declared: "We do not conclude from a man's physical type his ability, but rather from his achievements his race." Per Gregor, ..".achievements, not physical type, were to be the measure of worth." This new merit-based racial conception was "well under way" by 1935, yet few historians since that time have bothered to mention this, let alone examine it. And just what did this reorientation encompass? The new theory iterated that heroism, willpower, the readiness to sacrifice, and faith were more important in shaping Germany's destiny than physical traits such as tallness and blondness. Of course, it took time for this new conception to trickle down and disseminate amongst the various official and elite entities: Reichsfuhrer Himmler and the Allgemeine SS were initially among the least responsive to the reorientation. Himmler stubbornly resisted conceding to the Russian Slavs in any tangible way until it was too late to reverse Germany's military collapse. But Himmler did bow to Andrei Vlasov in the end: The most notable aspect of the Himmler-Vlasov conference is that the decisive change in Nazi policy arrived. It was Himmler who convinced Hitler to allow Vlasov and his Slavs to prove their quality. And Himmler admitted to Vlasov that grave errors had been made (regarding the Slavs), that attitudes were in fact changing, and that he had erred in publishing the anti-Slavic pamphlet Der Untermenschen. (In Himmler's defense, he claimed that all peoples had their "subhuman" elements and that he was only pointing out in this tract that Russia was ruled by the subhuman elements of her otherwise distinguished population. In any case, Himmler apologized to Vlasov.) Perhaps most astounding is what Richard Eichenauer, a teacher from Bochum and the author of Race as Law of Life in History and Ethos: A Guide for German Youth (1934), concluded. He went "so far as to inform his readers that the amount of Nordic blood an individual possesses means nothing (spielt keine Rolle) in the Nordic scheme of things because 'it has often enough been the case that men of extremely mixed race (stark gemischter Rasse) have conceived and more powerfully grasped these [Nordic] notions than the predominantly Nordic'." This is a firm rejection of Nordic determinism and could even be construed as an official endorsement of race-mixing. The Nazis utterly rejected Guenther's Nordic superman premise in the third and final phase of the development of NS racial theory." (C) Veronica K. Clark. All Rights Reserved."

This is a story of the unexpected. In Destined to Witness, Hans Massaquoi has crafted a beautifully rendered memoir -- an astonishing true tale of how he came of age as a black child in Nazi Germany. The son of a prominent African and a German nurse, Hans remained behind with his mother when Hitler came to power, due to concerns about his fragile health, after his father returned to Liberia. Like other German boys, Hans went to school; like other German boys, he swiftly fell under the Fuhrer's spell. So he was crushed to learn that, as a black child, he was ineligible for the Hitler Youth. His path to a secondary education and an eventual profession was blocked. He now lived in fear that, at any moment, he might hear the Gestapo banging on the door -- or Allied bombs falling on his home. Ironic,, moving, and deeply human, Massaquoi's account of this lonely struggle for survival brims with courage and intelligence.

Black German written by Theodor Michael and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with BIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY categories.

This is the first English translation of an important document in the history of the black presence in Germany and Europe: the autobiography of Theodor Michael. Theodor Michael is among the few surviving members of the first generation of 'Afro-Germans': Born in Germany in 1925 to a Cameroonian father and a German mother, he grew up in Berlin in the last days of the Weimar Republic. As a child and teenager he worked in circuses and films and experienced the tightening knot of racial discrimination under the Nazis in the years before the Second World War. He survived the war as a forced labourer, founding a family and making a career as a journalist and actor in post-war West Germany. Since the 1980s he has become an important spokesman for the black German consciousness movement, acting as a human link between the first black German community of the inter-war period, the pan-Africanism of the 1950s and 1960s, and new generations of Germans of African descent. Theodor Michael's life story is a classic account of coming to consciousness of a man who understands himself as both black and German; accordingly, it illuminates key aspects of modern German social history as well as of the post-war history of the African diaspora. The text has been translated by Eve Rosenhaft, Professor of German Historical Studies at the University of Liverpool and an internationally acknowledged expert in Black German studies. It is accompanied by a translator's preface, explanatory notes, a chronology of historical events and a guide to further reading, so that the book will be accessible and useful both for general readers and for undergraduate students.

* Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award * Silver Medal Society of Illustrators * * Named a Best Book of the Year by The New York Times, The Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, NPR, Comics Beat, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Kirkus Reviews, and Library Journal This “ingenious reckoning with the past” (The New York Times), by award-winning artist Nora Krug investigates the hidden truths of her family’s wartime history in Nazi Germany. Nora Krug was born decades after the fall of the Nazi regime, but the Second World War cast a long shadow over her childhood and youth in the city of Karlsruhe, Germany. Yet she knew little about her own family’s involvement; though all four grandparents lived through the war, they never spoke of it. After twelve years in the US, Krug realizes that living abroad has only intensified her need to ask the questions she didn’t dare to as a child. Returning to Germany, she visits archives, conducts research, and interviews family members, uncovering in the process the stories of her maternal grandfather, a driving teacher in Karlsruhe during the war, and her father’s brother Franz-Karl, who died as a teenage SS soldier. In this extraordinary quest, “Krug erases the boundaries between comics, scrapbooking, and collage as she endeavors to make sense of 20th-century history, the Holocaust, her German heritage, and her family's place in it all” (The Boston Globe). A highly inventive, “thoughtful, engrossing” (Minneapolis Star-Tribune) graphic memoir, Belonging “packs the power of Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home and David Small’s Stitches” (NPR.org).

A memoir of the past and a warning for today: the urgent account of a woman delving into her family's complicity with the Nazis during World War Two "An utterly original memoir for our times, elegant, courageous and deeply affecting" Philippe Sands, author of East West Street During the war, Géraldine Schwarz's grandparents were neither heroes nor villains – they just followed the current. Afterwards they wanted to forget, to bury it all under the wreckage of the Third Reich. But decades later, delving through the basement of their apartment building, Géraldine discovers that her grandfather Karl profited from the forced 'Aryanisation' of Jewish businesses – and so she is compelled to investigate her ancestors' past. On her mother's side, she delves into the role of her French grandfather, a policeman during the Vichy regime. How guilty were they? Combining generations of family stories with the history of Europe's post-war reckoning, Géraldine asks: how did Germans transform their collective guilt into democratic responsibility? And, given rising populism in Europe today, how can we ensure we learn from history? Géraldine Schwarz is a German-French journalist, author and documentary filmmaker based in Berlin. Those Who Forget, an account of her family's complicity with fascism, is her first book. It has been translated into eight languages and won the European Book Prize 2018, the German Winfried Preis and the Italian Nord-Sud Prize.

Evans shows how the Nazis won over the hearts and minds of German citizens, twisted science, religion and culture, and transformed the economy, education, law and order to achieve total dominance in German politics and society. Madman, tyrant, animal—history has given Adolf Hitler many names. In Mein Kampf (My Struggle), often called the Nazi bible, Hitler describes his life, frustrations, ideals, and dreams. Born to an impoverished couple in a small town in Austria, the young Adolf grew up with the fervent desire to become a painter. The death of his parents and outright rejection from art schools in Vienna forced him into underpaid work as a laborer. During the First World War, Hitler served in the infantry and was decorated for bravery. After the war, he became actively involved with socialist political groups and quickly rose to power, establishing himself as Chairman of the National Socialist German Worker's party. In 1924, Hitler led a coalition of nationalist groups in a bid to overthrow the Bavarian government in Munich. The infamous Munich "Beer-hall putsch" was unsuccessful, and Hitler was arrested. During the nine months he was in prison, an embittered and frustrated Hitler dictated a personal manifesto to his loyal follower Rudolph Hess. He vented his sentiments against communism and the Jewish people in this document, which was to become Mein Kampf, the controversial book that is seen as the blue-print for Hitler's political and military campaign. In Mein Kampf, Hitler describes his strategy for rebuilding Germany and conquering Europe. It is a glimpse into the mind of a man who destabilized world peace and pursued the genocide now known as the Holocaust.
