Latin America and the Caribbean are often placed in the same geographical and economic grouping. However, too little is known in either region about the other’s business cultures and marketplaces. Marketing in Latin America and the Caribbean is a casebook that analyses the marketing histories, challenges, strategies and vision of small, medium and large indigenous businesses from South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. The book is divided into three core sections: Marketing Tactics, including product development, pricing and digital marketing; Marketing Strategy, which considers brand development, targeting and positioning, and competitive advantage; and, Global and Regional Marketing, considering strategic alliances, global expansion and supply chain management. The work also captures the competitive strategies used by indigenous firms to drive regional and global expansion in the face of sometimes turbulent marketing environments: several of the cases in the book encourage student readers to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the strategies and futures of Latin American and Caribbean firms. Filling a gap in the literature by focusing on this understudied region and its indigenous firms, this text is essential and recommended reading for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students studying International Marketing, Marketing Management and Strategy. It will also be of use to academic faculty seeking classroom material that captures authentic Latin American and Caribbean marketing realities. The work is supplemented by detailed Teaching Notes for each chapter, available online for instructors.

This book presents eleven case studies of success about Latin America tourism. The cases are embedded in a framework describing the economic and cultural foundations of tourism development in the continent. Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Costa Rica are some of the Latin countries which have become examples and models for touristic development, respect for the environment and social inclusion. The book showcases some of the best practices, along with an analysis of how these projects helped improving the environmental and social surroundings and how return on investments has been ensured. Latin America is shown as an excellent example, with the Gross Domestic Product of the continent expanding intensely in the tertiary sector like leisure, hospitality, travel, tourism, entertainment, gastronomy, events and indoor and outdoor recreation. This book is a valuable resource both for professionals in the tourism industry and for researchers in tourism management.

Despite the significance of tourism to the economic, social and environmental structures of Central and South America, little has been documented in the English literature about tourism in this sub-region, which in terms of population size, ranks fourth in the world with 652 million inhabitants. The first of its kind, this book focuses exclusively on tourism development, planning and their impacts in a wide number of Central and South American countries. It covers experiences, challenges, successful and unsuccessful stories, specific cases, and other tourism related issues of twelve countries in total. Each chapter is authored by scholars who have done extensive research on tourism in the countries covered.

Despite progress in communication technologies, lack of information still severely handicaps companies seeking to operate in international markets. Furthermore, the investments that these companies must make to gather the information required to trade with foreign markets may yield reduced returns and may consequently be low from a social point of view as third parties may derive benefits from this same information. Thus, lack of information may negatively affect trade, and thereby productivity and economic growth. For these reasons, firms carrying out export projects may require support to overcome information barriers. This is precisely the service that export promotion organizations provide. But, there is little evidence on how well these organizations perform this task. Export promotion is costly, and the resources used might be better employed elsewhere. In order to ascertain that these resources are, in fact, being well invested, it must be first determined whether the policy initiatives they finance have an impact on those variables that are supposed to affect, in this case, exports. Making this determination is the aim of this report. This study first makes a comprehensive analysis of export promotion organizations in some three dozens of countries and regions; and second, it provides robust evaluations, using state-of-the-art econometrics and original data sets purposely compiled, of the impacts that policies have had on export outcomes of countries and firms. Findings reported in this study suggest that trade promotion has been effective in facilitating export expansion, especially along the extensive margin. At the same time, the report points the need for further research to gain deeper insights into its relative merits.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2005 in the subject Tourism, grade: 1,5, Stralsund University of Applied Sciences (University of Applied Sciences), course: Leisure and Tourism Management, 80 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: On the economic front, tourism has the capacity to create jobs: jobs for the poor, jobs in the indigenous communities, unskilled as well as highly qualified jobs, jobs in seaside resorts as well as in remote rural areas and in ecotourism activities. Tourism is a much more diverse industry than many others and can build upon a wide resource base. Diversity increases the scope for wide participation. Furthermore, most export industries depend on financial, productive and human capital. Indeed, tourism depends on these but also on natural capital, such as wildlife, scenery and beaches, and culture, vital assets of many developing countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. For these reasons combined, tourism should be considered as one of the important economic development opportunities available to developing countries in the region. The United Nations declared the year 2002 as INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF ECOTOURISM. The development of ecotourism often involves precious and fragile natural resources and must be done with great sensitivity. Natural habitats have been diminishing at alarming rates and equally alarming reports are regularly published on diminishing water resources, deforestation, increases in pollution, the destruction of corral reefs and many more. This is why ecotourism should also be sensitive to local communities, their land rights, traditions, cultures and ways of life. Ecotourism in remote areas cannot be developed without the consent and active involvement of local peoples, who should become partners in the process. For many countries like Chile, particularly in the developing world, tourism is one of the few meaningful sources of economic development and job creation. What would be the situation of count
