This is a modest compilation of 8 essays in Vedanta and around 40 summaries of speeches given by experts in Global Festival of Oneness 2021. Among the first 8 essays the eighth one is what is called Vedanta Sopanam in 27 shlokas; this constitutes the crux of the book as indicated by the design of the cover. These give you spiritually graded levels of shlokas from various scriptures. They take you from rock bottom to the highest spiritual level catering to successive age levels 20, 40, 60 and 80. The other forty summaries by me provide a wide supplement under various headings. Each of these stands on its own and can be enjoyed individually also.

About the Book Hinduism, the eternal religion (Sanatana Dharma), is based on the Vedas. It stands on a tripod called Prasthanatraya, the three canonical texts. Out of these three texts, books on the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads were already published and available in amazon.com. The present work covers some of the important topics of Advaita Vedanta - Philosophy of Non-Dualism - in Hinduism in the form of a compendium of essays. The goal of all religions is the complete annihilation of sorrows, miseries and sufferings. Being threatened by miseries all the time, a question arises 'Is there any way out from this misery?' The answer lies in the teachings of Prasthana Traya. Hence if this attempt attracts the notice of the seekers and kindles in them an enthusiasm to go back to the original works my efforts would have achieved their objective.

Philosophical issues such as reality and appearance, God and world, self and not-self, rebirth and immortality, free will and determination, mysticism, etc., have been examined by eastern and western philosophers as far back as the sages of Upanishads (700 BCE) in the East, and Plato (400 BCE) in the West. However, there was no significant communication among the philosophers of the East and West perhaps until the eighteenth century. Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) was one of the first among the great western philosophers to recognize the value of Indian philosophies. Despite the lack of communication there are striking similarities of concepts and issues addressed by Indian and western philosophies. Also interesting is how similar are the mystical versions of different religions of the East and West. The author, Dr. Arun Chatterjee, has attempted to bring out the similarities and differences in various chapters of this book dealing with different topics. Among Indian philosophies the focus is on Vedanta philosophy and the views of Sri Aurobindo (1872-1950). The views of Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) also are presented. Other Indian philosophies such as Sankhya and Buddhism are discussed briefly. Among western religions Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are discussed.
