An Apple in My Back is a novel about a surreal Sisyphus of sex and stunted self-discovery. It is a travel epic, a How-To-Get-Laid guide, and a moral fable. Youth-charged adrenaline drives men to karmic repetitions of libido, war, and fear. The archetypal narrator operates in limbo, seeking to break free of loneliness through bodies, minds, cities, and angels. Does love save? Can a lonely wolf dislodge Edens Apple and apocalyptic destiny? Is man doomed infinitely to spinning typewriter ribbons, chasing women and medallions? Are we condemned to the grand masculine narrative historically broken like a heart?

This story is inspired by an Apple Tree, that stood in my grandparent's back yard for many years. It was under that Apple Tree, my family used to gather for happy events, such as birthdays and anniversaries, sad events such as when my Great Aunt Viola died of cancer and even Holidays. The tree meant a lot to my family. It was planted many years ago, when my grandparents bought their home on Tryam St, in Commack, New York.It withstood major hurricanes, winter storms, blizzards and bug evasions. When I was a little girl, I used to collect the apples that had fallen from the tree and pretend to sell them.My grandparents however used it for a different purpose, they used to share the apples with their friends and family and even the homeless when the tree was young and full of life. After my grandparents died, my grandfather first of cancer in 1995, then my grandmother of a heart attack in 2001, the apple tree to die with them, and then a miracle happened. After my grandma died, we moved into her home, the we are being, my parents (my father was my grandparent's son) my husband and myself. The tree did not produce fruit for many years. My parents said that the large rotted-out tree was to dangerous to keep in the center of our yard so close to our house, so they called a tree trimmer to cut-it-down. I was heartbroken because a lot was changing. We were getting ready to sell my grandparents house, my father's childhood home, a home that every single of my Dad's side of the family lived in at one point or another in the 55 years my grandparents owned the home.I didn't want to move, I didn't want my parents to sell the home, and I didn't want our beloved tree to be cut down. So, I secretly prayed to my grandparents for a sign that everything would be ok, and that the move to G.A. would go well for us.On the day the tree-trimmer came, he called my parents, my hubby and myself outside to show us a true miracle, despite the apple tree being dead for many years, a perfect single red shiny apple appeared on the tree. An apple that was not there the day before. We stood in awe. We didn't eat the apple, and we didn't cut down the tree. The tree remined there standing until we sold the house in 2004 and the new owner took over, cutting down the tree and apple with it. An apple that was a miracle. This book is about three fictional families, that come together to save one historic Apple Tree and a historic Cottage from an Evil Empire. The Billmore Family, a powerful, rich and evil empire are hell-bent on buying up most of the land in the small town of Walla Walla, Washington. When some of the land owners refuse to sell their land, accidents happen, and fear runs through the Town.Nick and His wife Kimmy, along with Kimmy's twin sister Regina and her husband Jose are on a mission to stop the Billmore family. When the two pervious owners of the Cottage, Blues and Harmony and their daughter Jazz, and Arnold and his family hear about what was happening, they travel to Walla Walla to see if they can help. The danger is real. In his classic A Geography of Oysters, Rowan Jacobsen forever changed the way America talks about its best bivalve. Now he does the same for our favorite fruit, showing us that there is indeed life beyond Red Delicious-and even Honeycrisp. While supermarkets limit their offerings to a few waxy options, apple trees with lives spanning human generations are producing characterful varieties-and now they are in the midst of a rediscovery. From heirlooms to new designer breeds, a delicious diversity of apples is out there for the eating. Apples have strong personalities, ranging from crabby to wholesome. The Black Oxford apple is actually purple, and looks like a plum. The Knobbed Russet looks like the love child of a toad and a potato. (But don't be fooled by its looks.) The D'Arcy Spice leaves a hint of allspice on the tongue. Cut Hidden Rose open and its inner secret is revealed. With more than 150 art-quality color photographs, Apples of Uncommon Character shows us the fruit in all its glory. Jacobsen collected specimens both common and rare from all over North America, selecting 120 to feature, including the best varieties for eating, baking, and hard-cider making. Each is accompanied by a photograph, history, lore, and a list of characteristics. The book also includes 20 recipes, savory and sweet, resources for buying and growing, and a guide to the best apple festivals. It's a must-have for every foodie.

Did you ever hear of the golden apples, that grew in the garden of the Hesperides? Ah, those were such apples as would bring a great price, by the bushel, if any of them could be found growing in the orchards of nowadays! But there is not, I suppose, a graft of that wonderful fruit on a single tree in the wide world. Not so much as a seed of those apples exists any longer. And, even in the old, old, half-forgotten times, before the garden of the Hesperides was overrun with weeds, a great many people doubted whether there could be real trees that bore apples of solid gold upon their branches. All had heard of them, but nobody remembered to have seen any. Children, nevertheless, used to listen, open-mouthed, to stories of the golden apple-tree, and resolved to discover it, when they should be big enough. Adventurous young men, who desired to do a braver thing than any of their fellows, set out in quest of this fruit. Many of them returned no more; none of them brought back the apples. No wonder that they found it impossible to gather them! It is said that there was a dragon beneath the tree, with a hundred terrible heads, fifty of which were always on the watch, while the other fifty slept. In my opinion it was hardly worth running so much risk for the sake of a solid golden apple. Had the apples been sweet, mellow, and juicy, indeed that would be another matter. There might then have been some sense in trying to get at them, in spite of the hundred-headed dragon. But, as I have already told you, it was quite a common thing with young persons, when tired of too much peace and rest, to go in search of the garden of the Hesperides. And once the adventure was undertaken by a hero who had enjoyed very little peace or rest since he came into the world. At the time of which I am going to speak, he was wandering through the pleasant land of Italy, with a 4mighty club in his hand, and a bow and quiver slung across his shoulders. He was wrapt in the skin of the biggest and fiercest lion that ever had been seen, and which he himself had killed; and though, on the whole, he was kind, and generous, and noble, there was a good deal of the lion's fierceness in his heart. As he went on his way, he continually inquired whether that were the right road to the famous garden. But none of the country people knew anything about the matter, and many looked as if they would have laughed at the question, if the stranger had not carried so very big a club.
