Klaus Huber hinterliess mit dem Oratorium «Erniedrigt – Geknechtet – Verlassen – Verachtet...» sein Vermächtnis als politisch engagierter Komponist und Christ. Sein Werdegang ist durch familiäre Verwerfungen und Zeitgeschichte geprägt; beides wirkt in seine Musik hinein. Nach einem Schock im Jahr 1958 begannen sich Sturz und Schrei in Hubers Musik abzuzeichnen, bevor er sich in den 1960er-Jahren politisierte und entsprechend motivierte Musik schuf. Neuen Einflüssen gegenüber war er offen. So begann er ab 1991 als Reaktion auf den zweiten Golfkrieg, arabische Musik zu erforschen. Die Autorin stellt Hubers Biografie auf der Grundlage unterschiedlichster Archivfunde dar und erzählt Musik- und Lebensgeschichte immer auch als Zeitgeschichte. Daneben lässt sie Huber in faktenbasierten Selbstgesprächen auftreten und nähert sich Hubers Leben so aus zwei Perspektiven.

Im Jahre 1823 wurde der erste Doktortitel honoris causa an der Universität Basel verliehen. Fritz Hauser (1884–1941) war der unbestrittene "starke Mann" der sozialdemokratischen Regierungsmehrheit des Roten Basel.
