English summary: Close relationships that go beyond family ties and kinships have become an interdisciplinary research subject that has received a lot of attention. Variations of social ties such as friendship, patronage and social networks ensue from different historical and cultural contexts and, hence, constitute a significant yet under-represented subject of interdisciplinary research. Questions such as the changing semantics of friendship, historical, intercultural and political practices of friendship, patronage and loyalty were the focus of an international conference for a critical discussion and re-assessment of values and norms that constitute such relationships in different cultures and epochs, as well as the social circumstances that determine them. Aspects of interest included the constitution and representation of the body and gender and the growth of trust and deceit, as well as the culturally and historically different practices and semantics of friendship and patronage and the way they are perceived according to social status and social and historical contexts. The results of the conference are presented in this volume. German description: Nahbeziehungen, die uber familiare und verwandtschaftliche Bindungen hinausgehen, haben sich zu einem vielbeachteten Thema interdisziplinarer Forschung entwickelt. Beziehungen wie Freundschaft, Patronage und soziale Netzwerke als Variationen sozialer Bindungen sind das Ergebnis unterschiedlicher historischer wie kultureller Kontexte und stellen deshalb einen wesentlichen, aber immer noch unterreprasentierten Gegenstand interdisziplinaren Forschens dar. Fragen nach sich andernden Freundschaftssemantiken, historischen und interkulturellen bzw. politischen Praktiken von Freundschaft, Patronage und Loyalitat standen im Mittelpunkt einer internationalen Tagung, die eine kritische Diskussion und Neubewertung von Werten und Normen, die z.B. Freundschaft in verschiedenen Kulturen und historischen Epochen konstituieren, sowie der sozialen Umstande, die diese Nahbeziehungen bedingen, vorgenommen hat. Aspekte wie Konstitution und Reprasentation von Korper und Gender und das Entstehen von Vertrauen und Betrug waren dabei ebenso von Interesse wie die kulturell und historisch unterschiedliche Praxis und Semantik von Freundschaft und Patronage sowie deren jeweilige Wahrnehmung in Abhangigkeit von ihrer gesellschaftlichen Situation in verschiedenen sozialen und historischen Kontexten. Die Ergebnisse dieser Tagung werden nun im vorliegenden Band prasentiert.

Voor de jubilaris, die op 30 januari 70 jaar werd, vormde de werkzaamheid van het bewustzijn en de funktie ervan in de ontwikkelings geschiedenis van de mensheid een, zo niet het centrale onderwerp van zijn studies, dat men in zijn talrijke publicaties op uiteenlopende terreinen, met de sociologie als verbindend element, steeds vertegenwoordigd vindt. Een overzicht van de werken van de heer Landheer vindt men elders in dit boek, in het volgende komt slechts een enkel ervan ter sprake. Landheers publicaties beginnen bij Plato. In de twintiger jaren schreef hij aIs dissertatie een studie over Plato's ideeen omtrent de Staat: Der Gesellschafts- und Staatsbegriff Platons; Auf der Grundlage seiner Ideenlehre entwickelt. 1 Hij promoveerde hiermee summa cum laude bij Othmar Spann in Wenen. De werken van deze belangrijke geleerde werden kortelings opnieuw uitgegeven. Vit het voorwoord van de studie kan men opmaken hoe de leraar inspirerend op de promovendus heeft gewerkt. Het is een belangrijk, zuiver doordacht en met enthousiasme geschreven boek geworden.

Die Einsicht in die Polyvalenz poetischer Texte zähmt die noch jeder Form diskursiver Analyse von Kunstwerken eigene Tendenz, Sinn und Bedeutung festzuschreiben. Im Spannungsfeld zwischen der anarchischen “Lust am Text“ (Roland Barthes) und der “Wut des Verstehens“ (Jochen Hörisch) behaupten sich die ‘Lektüren’, die als Verstehensangebote der Vieldeutigkeit literarischer Werke durch Analysen von Form und Inhalt zur Sichtbarkeit verhelfen wollen, ohne ihnen den Atem abzuschnüren. The concept of Heimat with its seemingly pre- or anti-modern connotations of rootedness in a place of origin is central to a critical understanding of German history and culture. Over the course of the past fifteen years, scholars across a range of disciplines have found new ways to examine the changing notions of Heimat – its multifaceted cultural, literary, and visual history, its gendered connotations, and its national and ideological appropriations. This anthology is the first to examine cultural manifestations of Heimat by giving special consideration to issues of memory and space. The contributions to this volume challenge static notions of place often associated with Heimat. Instead, they explore the social and cultural production of places of belonging as they emerge in literary and visual narratives ranging from 1800 to 2000 and beyond. Although the anthology includes historical perspectives on Heimat, its overall objective is not to trace its cultural or literary history, but to place this complex term into new conceptual contexts. Drawing attention to manifestations of Heimat within German literary and cultural studies provides a rich ground for exploring the transformation of locality in trans/national contexts.
