Drawing upon Edward Schillebeeckx's theology and Judith Butler's philosophy, Adam Beyt uses the framework of nonviolent hope to construct a Catholic political theology responding to dehumanizing violence. Dehumanizing violence names words, institutions, or acts violating the inherent dignity of being made in the image and likeness of God. Theology can participate in dehumanizing violence by claiming an uninterrogated universality that marginalizes bodies due to their perceived differences such as gender, race, sexuality, or ability. The book's constructive project integrates Schillebeeckx's and Butler's thought with queer theory and phenomenology to model embodiment as an “enfleshing dynamism” between bodies and signification. The text then posits Catholic discipleship as incarnating hope by defending the humanum, the new humanity announced through God's Reign. Combining reflections from Schillebeeckx and Butler, this hope centers discipleship as nonviolent world building. Concluding with a sustained reflection with the writings of Franz Fanon and Walter Benjamin, the final chapter sketches a Catholic solidaristic response to contemporary struggles against the necropolitics of colonizing and state violence through assemblies of hope.

EMBODIMENT OF HOPE is telling the life story of Omolo his family and his clan based on Luo Culture and Customs. The book investigates the circumstances and experiences of three generation of Joka Nyandiga clan, a remarkable clan from Kodero Bara Village in Kenya. There are powerful stories of four widowed women, Ogola Ngare, Flora, Esta and Damaris and their relationships with men in the patriarchal Luo society and continues to explore the ambitions of these widows. The novel begins with the story of one On'gele, the first pioneer warrior from the clan to join the KAR Army to fight in the First World War. On'gele would retire from service, return to Kodero Bara Village, where he would leave a mark as the village Casanova. In his journey among women, he would sire a son, Erasto Omolo, out of leviratic union with Ogola Ngare. Erasto, impressed by his father's war-time stories, would be second warrior. Omolo joined the British Colonial Army to fight in the Second World War, but unlike his father, he instead got more interested in the White man's civilization, their lifestyle and education, which he adopted. As a result, Omolo gained a career in the in Colonial Kenya. The second story, intertwined with the first, is about the clash of African religious beliefs and cultural practices, with Christianity and the White man's culture, and the struggles of Luo ancestors to cope with the new way of life under colonial rule as demonstrated in the lives of Ogola Ngare's sons, Ogawo, Midianga and Omolo, men who lived in a world dominated by the arrival of aggressive Christian missionaries and their Christian-cum-western culture. The novel elaborates on the compatibility between what the sons understood about Luo cultural values and beliefs, on one hand, and the new Christian religion and the notion of modernity, on the other hand.The novel ends with the story of Ongele's grandson, Edward, a silent modern book and pen warrior, who becomes a university professor in the USA
