An experimental study of the noise produced by a single cavitation bubble was made. The noise consists principally of a transient pressure pulse associated with the collapse of the bubble. The motion of the bubble was photographed simultaneously with the measurement of the pressure pulse. (Author).

In this investigation, high-frequency travelling-bubble cavitation noise generated on a Schiebe headform is analyzed with regard to noise theories which are based on the collapse of a single bubble. After normalizing the noise level by an event rate, -sigma C(p(min)) appears to provide a reasonable scaling factor for the noise level radiated per collapse, where sigma is the cavitation number and C(p(min)) is the minimum pressure coefficient on the headform. At frequencies above 10 kHz and free-stream flow velocities between 9.1 and 12.2 mps (30 and 40 fps), the noise level per collapse varied as roughly 1/sigma to the 8.4 power, and was constant with the flow velocity for constant -sigma/C(p(min)). The energy density spectra were flat from 10 to 100 kHz regardless of the cavitation number or free-stream velocity. (Author).

Mechanics Of Flow Induced Sound And Vibration Volume 1 written by William K. Blake and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Mechanics of Flow-Induced Sound and Vibration, Volume 1: General Concepts and Elementary Sources, Second Edition, enables readers to fully understand flow-induced vibration and sound, unifying the disciplines of fluid dynamics, structural dynamics, vibration, acoustics, and statistics in order to classify and examine each of the leading sources of vibration and sound induced by various types of fluid motion. Starting with classical theories of aeroacoustics and hydroacoustics, a formalism of integral solutions valid for sources near boundaries is developed and then broadened to address different source types, including jet noise, flow tones, dipole sound from cylinders, and cavitation noise. Step-by-step derivations clearly identify any assumptions made throughout. Each chapter is illustrated with comparisons of leading formulas and measured data. Along with its companion, Mechanics of Flow-Induced Sound and Vibration, Volume 2: Complex Flow-Structure Interactions, the book covers everything an engineer needs to understand flow-induced sound and vibration. This book will be essential reading for postgraduate students, and for engineers and researchers with an interest in aerospace, ships and submarines, offshore structures, construction, and ventilation. Presents every important topic in flow-induced sound and vibration Covers all aspects of the topics addressed, from fundamental theory, to the analytical formulas used in practice Provides the building blocks of computer modeling for flow-induced sound and vibration

Experimental Studies Of Cavitation Noise In A Free Jet Tunnel written by C. S. Song and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1961 with Cavitation categories.

The results of experimental studies on cavitation noise generated in the free-jet tunnel at St. Anthony Falls Hydraulic Laboratory in the period October 1960 to June 1961 are summarized. Two-dimensional test bodies of different shapes, such as a circular cylinder, wedge, and a TulinBurkhart hydrofoil were tested. Various types of cavitating flows, namely, transient cavities, steady-state cavities, and non-stationary cavities were covered. Special attention was given to the effect of ventilation on the intensity of cavitation noise. Effects of body size and the presence of a solid boundary were also investigated. (Author).

Mechanics Of Underwater Noise written by Donald Ross and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Science categories.

Mechanics of Underwater Noise elucidates the basic mechanisms by which noise is generated, transmitted by structures and radiated into the sea. Organized into 10 chapters, this book begins with a description of noise, decibels and levels, significance of spectra, and passive sonar equation. Subsequent chapters discuss sound waves in liquids; acoustic radiation fundamentals; wind-generated ocean ambient noise; vibration isolation and structural damping; and radiation by plate flexural vibrations. Other chapters address cavitation, propeller cavitation noise, radiation by fluctuating-force (dipole) sources, and mechanical noise sources. This book will be helpful as a self-education text and as a reference for workers in the field.
