This study attempts to fill some gaps in knowledge. Its objectives can be briefly summarized as follows: The compilation of comparable international information on expenditure on health services and their component parts, and on the methods of financing such expenditue, the development of a standardized framework for national health accounting that could be used routinely as an aid to health planning in countries at different levels of social and economic development and that could also be used to compare the health services of such countries.
