The pending arrival of a baby is a wonderful time! It doesn't matter what the circumstances, when a new baby comes into the world, it is a true miracle. As is expected, much of the focus in the delivery room is on the woman. After all, she is the one who is enduring the pain of childbirth. What many people don't consider is that the men in the delivery room have their own issues as well. Years ago, men weren't allowed in the delivery room. Men were relegated to the waiting room, left to pace a hole in the floor as they waited for their offspring to be born. Obviously you cannot know exactly what it feels like to carry and birth a new-born; however, you can learn as much as possible about all the stages of pregnancy, labour, delivery, and new-born bonding. Perhaps once you understand the prenatal class basics you might start having doubts about how you will be able to handle it all. Try to set those uncomfortable thoughts aside. Studies show that men are more likely to get and stay involved in the care and nurturing of their children if they are present at the births. So what's a man to do? If you're the father to be, you have probably heard the horror stories. It's like a pain you, as a man, can never know. Research shows that when a woman has a supportive birth partner, this reduces her need for pain-killing drugs and increases her satisfaction with the birth experience. This also can reduce her stresses and worries about being a mother and make her more confident after the baby is born. Having a familiar face can be very reassuring. There are many things you can do to help the momma to be along the way to becoming a full-fledged mother. You may be confused – especially when things start getting a little frantic – and they will! With the help of this book, you'll be much more prepared for the birthing experience.

Make Room For Daddy written by Judith Walzer Leavitt and has been published by Univ of North Carolina Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-21 with Medical categories.

Using fathers' first-hand accounts from letters, journals, and personal interviews along with hospital records and medical literature, Judith Walzer Leavitt offers a new perspective on the changing role of expectant fathers from the 1940s to the 1980s. She shows how, as men moved first from the hospital waiting room to the labor room in the 1960s, and then on to the delivery and birthing rooms in the 1970s and 1980s, they became progressively more involved in the birth experience and their influence over events expanded. With careful attention to power and privilege, Leavitt charts not only the increasing involvement of fathers, but also medical inequalities, the impact of race and class, and the evolution of hospital policies. Illustrated with more than seventy images from TV, films, and magazines, this book provides important new insights into childbirth in modern America, even as it reminds readers of their own experiences.

Birthing Fathers written by Richard K. Reed and has been published by Rutgers University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-01-19 with Social Science categories.

"Treating birth as ritual, Reed makes clever use of his anthropological expertise, qualitative data, and personal experience to bring to life the frustrations and joys men often encounter as they navigate the medical model of birthing."-William Marsiglio, author Sex, Men, and Babies: Stories of Awareness and Responsibility In the past two decades, men have gone from being excluded from the delivery room to being admitted, then invited, and, finally, expected to participate actively in the birth of their children. No longer mere observers, fathers attend baby showers, go to birthing classes, and share in the intimate, everyday details of their partners' pregnancies. In this unique study, Richard Reed draws on the feminist critique of professionalized medical birthing to argue that the clinical nature of medical intervention distances fathers from child delivery. He explores men's roles in childbirth and the ways in which birth transforms a man's identity and his relations with his partner, his new baby, and society. In other societies, birth is recognized as an important rite of passage for fathers. Yet, in American culture, despite the fact that fathers are admitted into delivery rooms, little attention is given to their transition to fatherhood. The book concludes with an exploration of what men's roles in childbirth tell us about gender and American society. Reed suggests that it is no coincidence that men's participation in the birthing process developed in parallel to changing definitions of fatherhood more broadly. Over the past twenty years, it has become expected that fathers, in addition to being strong and dependable, will be empathetic and nurturing. Well-researched, candidly written, and enriched with personal accounts of over fifty men from all parts of the world, this book is as much about the birth of fathers as it is about fathers in birth.

Fathering in Cultural Contexts: Developmental and Clinical Issues answers these questions by considering a broad range of theoretical and conceptual models on fathering and childhood development, including attachment theory, developmental psychopathology, masculinity and parenting typologies. Roopnarine and Yildirim provide a comprehensive view of fatherhood and fathering in diverse cultural communities at various stages of economic development, including fathers’ involvement in different family structures, from two-parent heterosexual families to community fathering. This book’s interdisciplinary approach highlights the changing nature of fathering, drawing connections with child development and well-being, and evaluates the effectiveness of a range of father interventions. Fathering in Cultural Contexts will appeal to upper level undergraduate and graduate students in human development, psychology, sociology, anthropology, social work, and allied health disciplines, and professionals working with families and children in non-profit and social service agencies across the world.

Being A Godly Man In A Godless World written by Craig Starley and has been published by WestBow Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-21 with Religion categories.

There is an epidemic wiping out many of our men. The cancer spreading throughout the country affects us all. The devastation causes broken marriages, leaves heartbroken children who have been caught in the crossfire, and offers lousy examples for the next generations to follow. The churches are filled with men who have no idea what constitutes a real man. We are so far from where God wants us to be. In Being a Godly Man in a Godless World, author Craig Starley maintains there is only one cure to remove this cancer and cure the problem. It’s the Gospel. Through the lives of a host of men in the Bible—following the lead of the original godly man, Jesus—Starley examines what it means to be a real man. Through scripture and Bible story examples, he shows that the definition of a real man can’t be found on television or in the movies. It can only be found by looking at Jesus Christ as the quintessential role model.
