In elementary schools across the United States, many teachers tasked with teaching health education or physical education have not had training in these areas. Health and Physical Education for Elementary Classroom Teachers: An Integrated Approach, Second Edition, is the perfect resource for these educators. It covers both health and physical education while giving current and preservice teachers the skills to deliver appropriate lessons to their young students. In this second edition, Retta Evans and Sandra Sims, respected educators and physical education advocates, provide everything teachers need in order to seamlessly incorporate health education and physical education into an integrated curriculum. Based on national health education, physical education, and state-specific academic standards, this is a guide that will help teachers empower elementary students to become healthy and active. A new chapter dedicated to contextual considerations of the learner will guide teachers to better understand factors that may affect learning and give them ideas for changing students’ health behaviors. The new edition’s ancillary products, offered through HKPropel, allow teachers to put concepts from the text into use with their students. Instructor ancillaries include the following: Sample syllabus Chapter resources, including an overview, outline, and review questions with answers Approximately 25 chapter questions, using various levels of Webb’s depth of knowledge framework, to help in creating quick assessments of student learning or in building custom tests Approximately 200 slides to reinforce key points Also new to this edition are related student resources delivered through HKPropel, which include lab exercises that allow education students to practice the material they are learning and design their own standards-based lesson plans that integrate health and physical education. Learning activities and key terms with definitions align with each chapter in the text. The resources also include sample integrated activity plans for each of the five physical education standards and each of the eight health education standards. Health and Physical Education for Elementary Classroom Teachers is organized into two parts. Part I focuses on the foundational knowledge needed for teaching health and physical education. It addresses risky behaviors relevant to today’s generation of students, the impact of children’s physical growth on learning and decision making, and the characteristics and benefits of a high-quality physical education program. It also includes the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model as a way to facilitate school-wide collaboration that connects education to wellness. Part II emphasizes the strategies necessary for incorporating health, physical education, and physical activity into the curriculum and school day. It discusses how teachers can become advocates of healthy and active schools, identify habits that promote everyday health in the classroom, and incorporate physical activity and the national standards into each school day. It also presents teaching methods, assessment tools, and evaluation strategies to ensure teaching success. Note: A code for accessing HKPropel is not included with this ebook but may be purchased separately.

The Data Teamtm Procedure A Systematic Approach To School Improvement written by Kim Schildkamp and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-11 with Education categories.

This book describes the Data Team Procedure: a method for data-based decision making that can help schools to improve their quality. It involves the use of teams consisting of 4-6 teachers, 1-2 school leaders and a data expert. The members of the team collaboratively learn how to use data to solve an educational problem within the school, adopting a systematic approach. The data team procedure is an iterative and cyclic procedure consisting of eight steps. The data team members are trained in the data team procedure by a coach. The coach visits the data team’s school regularly for a meeting and facilitates working according to the systematic procedure. Teams participate in data analysis workshops for more specific support. Divided into three parts, the book first describes the importance of data use and the data team procedure. Next, it describes two cases. The first case concerns a data team working on a school level problem: Reducing grade repetition. The second case concerns a data team working on a classroom level problem: low student achievement in English language. The last part of the book explains what it means to implement the data team procedure in the school, the conditions needed for implementing the data team procedure, and the factors that may hinder or support the use of data in data teams.

Easy to use and understand, Teams in Educa-tion: Creating An Integrated Approach is a tool for education professionals who need or want to develop cross-functional or departmental teams in education. This new handbook was specifically designed to provide education professionals with a practical, pragmatic way to create and manage quality teams. Although there are many team handbooks available today, most are complex and difficult to follow for the average individual. In addition, these books are expensive and many schools or school districts cannot afford to purchase a copy for everyone. Unlike these existing handbooks, Teams in Education is clearly written in straightforward language that simply describes how to create and manage teams. The reader quickly understands the processes to follow to ensure total participation in team activities and is given the tools to measure and document team progress. As one education professional explained, the reader develops the expertise and understanding necessary to eliminate and manage conflict. This unique handbook also contains a simple process to encourage everyone to participate in the quality initiative. The 5+5 program outlined in this book is used to demonstrate to staff that no improvement is too small. This technique makes it easier for staff to show the added value of their quality activities to administrators and school board members. Special feature - this 5+5 program is the only program designed to collect the data education professionals need to show that they are making improvements in student and administrative outcomes.

Research-based spin-off companies are a special subgroup of new technology-based ventures and play an important role for innovation and economic development. Executive teams of academic spin-offs face several challenges in building up sustainable and profitable ventures, because they often lack managerial and entrepreneurial skills. Based on a quantitative analysis of 193 German spin-offs RigoTietz examines the relationships between executive team characteristics, strategic decision making, and firm performance. The study contributes to the entrepreneurship and strategic management literature and has practical implications for entrepreneurs and managers, policymakers and practitioners of start-up initiatives and technology transfer organisations.
