Questo quaderno nasce dal progetto della Netherland Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) in collaborazione con restauratori olandesi di dipinti e il Curtauld Instutute of Art che ha avuto come obiettivo quello di raggiungere una migliore comprensione delle proprietà dei materiali per la pulitura a secco per la loro applicazione su superfici dipinte non verniciate. Il presente lavoro riguarda il progetto portato avanti nel periodo 2006-2009, comprendente le analisi dei materiali e la descrizione della metodologia per la valutazione delle corrette metodiche per pulitura con metodi a secco; il libro cercherà inoltre di focalizzarsi sull’integrità delle superfici pittoriche ad olio e a tempera sensibili al contatto coi solventi.

Le tre tele scelte – Superficie 207 del 1957, Superficie 538 del 1961 e Superficie 553 del 1965 – appartenenti al periodo “segnico”, sono state oggetto di una mirata e approfondita campagna di indagini scientifiche effettuata in collaborazione con numerose istituzioni all’avanguardia nel campo della ricerca e del restauro sui beni culturali e in parte finanziata dall’infrastruttura E-RIHS (European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science) con il supporto economico del Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'Università e della Ricerca.
