'The Politics of Crime and Conflict is a significant contribution to the comparative study of criminal justice. Its strengths lie in the authors' rigorous scholarly analysis and attention to detail; the utility of the conceptual framework as an ordering device for the case studies; the often fresh and insightful conclusions the authors draw from their analysis of the diverse body of data they present; and the valuable heuristic contribution of Prof. Gurr's theoretical model of urban disorder. Finally, the study is well-written and remarkably free from jargon...' -- Policy Studies Journal, Vol 6 No 3, Spring 1978 '...one can only praise and applaud these authors' efforts to raise the study of urban crime and repression from

Crime And Modernization written by Louise I. Shelley and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1981 with Social Science categories.

In this pioneering analysis of the influence exerted by modernization and socioeconomic evolution on patterns of crime, criminologist Louise I. Shelley asserts, "Society gets the type and level of criminality its conditions produce." Shelley investigates crime patterns in undeveloped capitalist countries, in developed capitalist countries, and in Socialist countries. Her study is unique in that she alone synthesizes historical accounts of crime and civil disorder with the literature of modern urban studies and contemporary criminality. Through her cross-cultural and historical approach she demonstrates that contrary to what seems apparent, the global profile of crime is not that of a maniacal pillaging monster. The monster is sane. Crime patterns are predictable. By analyzing the criminal population, recent crime trends, the impact of the criminal justice system, and the predominant values of society, Shelley makes informed predictions concerning the future state of criminality. Shelley addresses six issues. She considers ways in which modernization has affected rates of crime during the initial and later stages of a society's development. She asks how modernization affects the rates of occurrence of fundamental forms of crime. Another question is whether development changes the relationship between crimes against property and crimes of violence against people. Does the speed of the transition from undeveloped to developed society alter observable patterns of behavior? And finally, does modernization change the nature of the criminal population? In this book Shelley provides both historical and contemporary perspectives from which to view the impact of the developmental process on levels and forms of criminality. She synthesizes the large body of literature aimed at measuring the extent to which socioeconomic development produces similar changes in culturally distinct and geographically separated nations.

Rethinking German History Routledge Revivals written by Richard J. Evans and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-11 with History categories.

In Rethinking German History, first published in 1987, Richard J. Evans argues for a social-historical approach to the German past that pays equal attention to objective social structures and subjective values and experiences. If German history has been seen as an exception to the ‘normal’ development of Western society, this is not least because historians have until recently largely failed to look beyond the world of high politics, institutions, organizations and ideologies to broader historical problems of German society and German mentalities. By applying and adapting approaches learned from French and British social history as they have been developed over the last quarter of a century, it is possible to achieve a rethinking of German history which does away with many of the textbook myths that have encrusted the historiogrpahy of Germany for so long. This book will be valuable for students of German history and politics, and brings together essays widely used in teaching. Its broad coverage of social history will also be useful to all those interested in contemporary historiography or the comparative study of European history.
