Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: "Trotz steigender Studentenzahlen will die nordrhein-westfälische Bildungsministerin Gabriele Behler (SPD) an den Hochschulen des Landes in den nächsten Jahren rund 2000 Personalstellen streichen. ... Aufgrund der Finanznot der Länder können die Hochschulen nicht mit steigenden Etats rechnen..." Wie das oben genannte aktuelle Zitat zeigt, bekennen sich die Bundesländer inzwischen offen zu ihrer Finanznot. Sparmaßnahmen, auch im Bereich der Bildung, sind die Folge. Die vom Staat finanzierten Hochschulen, welche die überwiegende Mehrheit darstellen und den weitaus größten Teil ihrer Finanzierung aus den Finanzmitteln der Länder beziehen, sehen sich jedoch steigenden Studentenzahlen gegenüber. Eine gleichbleibende oder steigende Qualität von Lehre und Forschung ist unter diesen Umständen nur sehr schwer zu realisieren. Aus diesem Grund suchen die Hochschulen nach zusätzlichen Finanzierungsquellen und sind u. a. im Bereich des Hochschul-Sponsoring fündig geworden. Das Hochschul-Sponsoring in Deutschland befindet sich im Vergleich zu anderen Ländern jedoch erst am Anfang seiner Entwicklung. Das Hochschul-Sponsoring, als eines der brennenden Themen der aktuellen Hochschuldiskussion, führte zu der Überlegung eine Analyse des Sponsoring an bundesdeutschen Hochschulen durchzuführen. Aber nicht nur auf Seiten der Hochschulen wurde das Sponsoring zu einem aktuellen Thema. Auch auf Seiten der Unternehmen gewinnt das Wissenschafts-Sponsoring und somit auch das Hochschul-Sponsoring als kommunikationspolitisches Instrument der Unternehmen an Bedeutung. Weil z. B. mit dem Sport-Sponsoring nicht mehr die Wachstumsraten früherer Jahre erreicht werden können, suchen die Unternehmen vermehrt nach anderen Kommunikationskanälen. Gang der Untersuchung: Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es insbesondere die theoretischen Grundlagen des Hochschul-Sponsoring darzustellen und anhand ausgewählter Beispiele zum einen Anregungen zu schaffen und zum anderen den Einsatz der Theorie in der Praxis zu verdeutlichen. Zunächst werden hierzu die theoretischen Grundlagen dargestellt, die allgemeine Gültigkeit für die Erscheinungsformen des Sponsoring besitzen. Während die Grundlagen des Sponsoring überwiegend aus Sicht der Unternehmen dargestellt werden, befaßt sich der dritte Teil dieser Arbeit mit den Besonderheiten des Hochschul-Sponsoring aus Sicht der Hochschulen. Edward Gibbon's allegation at the beginning of his Essay on the Study of Literature (1764) that the history of empires is that of the miseries of humankind whereas the history of the sciences is that of their splendour and happiness has for a long time been accepted by professional scientists and by historians of science alike. For its practitioner, the history of a discipline displayed above all the always difficult but fmally rewarding approach to a truth which was incorporated in the discipline in its actual fonn. Looking back, it was only too easy to distinguish those who erred and heretics in the field from the few forerunners of true science. On the one hand, the traditional history of science was told as a story of hero and hero worship, on the other hand it was, paradoxically enough, the constant attempt to remind the scientist whom he should better forget. It is not surprising at all therefore that the traditional history of science was a field of only minor interest for the practitioner of a distinct scientific diSCipline or specialty and at the same time a hardly challenging task for the professional historian. Nietzsche had already described the historian of science as someone who arrives late after harvest-time: it is somebody who is only a tolerated guest at the thanksgiving dinner of the scientific community .
